Reach by 1730 to witness the arti that begins at 1800. Find a good spot, preferably hire a boat or a seat on the boat. One has to haggle with these "boat men". The arti is beautiful and lasts about 40-45 minutes.

My husband and I came to see the evening 'Aarti'. It's situated at Dasaswamedh Ghat in Varanasi and is a firework and light show. Free entry but you have to get there early to get a good vantage point. We got there at 5.30pm and the show starts at 6.15pm and last for approximately 45 mins. It's a must see... More

This crowded ghat is the site of the famed ganga aart, I hired a guide through my hotel Nasader Palace and was not disappointed. Be aware hang on to your guide at all costs as the pedsestrian aria leading up to the ghat is chaotic with traffic and super crowded - we were escorted to the seating platform on the... More

This is the main Gath of Varanasi. There are stores, hotels, restaurants, temples, etc. But the most important thing are the rituals that happen there. You can't Miss Aarti, every day at 7pm. This is a ritual with Hindu priests to honor the Ganga river. Also, there are lots of Ascetics, people selling stuff, medidating, resting, etc. This is the... More

My wife and I attended the Ganga Aarti ceremony on Dashaswamedh Ghat whilst visiting Varanasi during a tour of northern India. It takes place daily just after sunset and is attended by thousands of people, both tourists and pilgrims. We were scheduled to view it from the river on a private boat. The ceremony is a “must see” if you... More

This ghat is the busiest and, although each ghat has its own character, this is the liveliest place.

Probably the largest ghat in Varanasi. Quite clean nowadays. In the evening Ganga aarti is performed on this ghat which is worth seeing.
