Dashashwamedh and Assi ghats are the most popular and hence the most crowded. However, ghats like Darbhanga Ghat, Manmandir Ghat, Raja Ghat, Harishchandra Ghat have beautiful architecture and are more peaceful. The Ghats are very crowded during Mahashivratri and Dev Deepavali and it is better to visit the lesser known Ghats during this time to avoid the crowd

Visit the ghats early morning, take a boat (not a motor boat), ride along the ghats and experience a serene calmness of Varanasi.

The ghats are cleaner now. One can visit, sit at the ghat and enjoy the peace and tranquility of river ganges. The lemon tea sold at the ghats is excellent and one must enjoy it.

Walking on the ghats is one of the best experiences, you explore and view the city at another level, it's so nice to walk along the ganga river and get lost untill you can walk.

Do not miss the Ganga aarti at the Dashashwamedh ghat, the one with 5 people doing the aarti - experience of a lifetime.

A visit to the ghats of Varanasi on the Ganga is one of those bucket list items, and rightfully so. Our group visited in the early morning (we left our hotel at 5 am) and some members took a boat trip on the river. I walked along the ghats and took in all the sights, sounds, and smells along the... be ready to take 400 photos and still not know which ones to discard ~ all will have a new color, new flavor, new light, or a new human interaction captured and you won't be able to decide which ONE is the best capture of this gorgeous scene by boat! ENJOY!

A morning walk around these Ghats would give you a peace of mind. These Ghats are the places where people do Religious Rituals and many things. Hire a boat and travel on Ganga River to see every Ghat. If possible see Ganga Aarti on a Boat. You can find Sadhu people on these Ghats enjoying spiritual life. Ask people of... More

even if it is not fun it is interesting, Varanasi as a whole does not offer a much more then just being a big busy city, but the ghats are a must see, I made the mistake of staying 5 K away ,I should have stayed closer.

All human senses are tested (and appear to be intensified) here. Irrespective of faith, one feels that this is a spiritual centre of a major religion. Exceptional experience on the Ganges river at night and at dawn.
