It was a pleasure to visit this small gallery set in the sprawling grounds of an age old kothi and be shown around by Navneet himself. He is the man behind this gallery devoted to contemporary art which is a rarity any where in India, leave alone Benaras! The current exhibit of black and white photographs of brick workers around Varanasi by an American photographer was quite interesting. The gallery draws art students from BHU. Hats off to Navneet for this slice of art in traditional Benaras.

Kriti Gallery is a real gem with its lovely architecture and attention to detail. I was positively surprised to find an ambitious art space of such standard in Benaras. The Bricks show is great - I recommend it!
Hidden away from dusty roads and traffic it is an oasis with a huge garden of big trees and flowers. This in itself is already well worth a visit. Navneet, who I had the joy to get to know during my stay, is the curator of the space and beside being extremly generous, he is also very helpful with local knowledge.
Kriti's art residencies made a very good impression on me since I was invited to join some of their activities where I made new contacts. I will consider applying to enjoy the full package of a live-in-studio, access to workshop facilities, good food and supportive staff!

A great place for contemporary art in Varanasi. A must visit if you’re in the city. Navneet, the curator, is so nice and informative. The atmosphere in the gallery is amazing. The Brick Workers exhibition by Anja Bruehling was so interesting.
Ill visit again (:

Kriti is the only gallery for contemporary art in Varanasi. A site to see learn and enjoy culture like one does in any other big city in the world , and yet a very local and situated manner. An opportunity to step aside from the Varanasi we take for granted

Kriti Gallery is a wonderful little sanctuary in the beautiful craziness of Banaras. It was amazing to see contemporary art of India blossom in such a historically rich city, and I enjoyed getting a taste of what other visitor artists take from their stay in India. Fazal Sheikh's mesmerizing photographs were shown when I visited. I loved being able to view his experience through stunning and incredibly moving photographs. Kriti also offers a small gift shop featuring works from local and featured artists allowing visitors to take a piece of art home with them. If you'd like to keep the experience you have in Kriti Gallery with you, you 'll be able to do so through books by Sheikh sold in the gift shop.

Navneet Raman and his wife Petra Manefield do an amazing job running a state of the art gallery, showing the latest works by Varanasi artists and other areas of India. They also feature music events and have a residency program with housing and studios for visiting artists!

This art gallery is one of a kind in banaras. Great vibe and garden to just relax from the crazy traffic outside. They showcase some unique international and local artist's work and have a small art shop on the side. Bought few gifts too. Don't miss out.

We visited this gallery on the recommendation of friends and were not disappointed. They were showing an exhibition of photographs by Katarina Weslien of the Khumb Mela festival called Riktata which means emptiness. A strange subject at a festival of 30 million people but the pictures were both moving and beautiful. The gallery is in a beautiful garden and the owners Navneet and Petra are both welcoming and fascinating. The only things we saw that we wanted to buy in all the time we were in Varanasi were some of the wonderful crafts that Petra sells through the gallery. Gorgeous lapis lazuli balls and eggs, soft and really beautiful and unusual pashminas and summer blankets of soft muslin over printed fabric which were exquisite and there was plenty more. I understand they also do residencies for artists, writers, anthropologists etc anyone who wants to live and work in the teaming, fascinating holy city of Varanasi should head straight to the Kriti Gallery. One of the best things we did in Varanasi. Also Petra introduced us to Ajay who is part of their foundation and is the most extraordinary fascinating, beautifully spoken and knowledgable guide to the city where he has lived all his life. His insights into the lifestyle and the delicious street foods of Varanasi made our visit. We would never have dared to eat street food without his know.edge of where was both delicious and safe.
