Tours and Tickets by Varanasi Walking Tour
Overview
Since Varanasi is a city of ghats, alleys and temples it is not possible for somebody from outside to really know the hidden gems of Varanasi (like a street dentist or a open court clay gym, which the traditional way of staying fit in Varanasi) without a professional guide. Places like these can only be accessed with a guide who is knowledgeable as well as passionate to show Varanasi like we do.

I thought this would be too long for me but it was so interesting that I forgot to be tired! Our guide took us to see many home industries we would never otherwise have noticed. We saw dwellings and temples and neighbourhoods we'd never have found on our own. First off, we had an awesome guide and I am sorry that I do not recall his name but we booked him through Homestay (Harish RIJHWANI) for both the evening sunset and the morning sunset tours. This young gentleman was very professional and securing. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Varanasi and its rituals as he led us through the chaoes of a street filled with people who have come here to die, the homeless, the hungry, the desperate amidst traffic of cars, motor bikes, rickshaws and the occasional cow sitting in the middle of the street as if it was dividing the street left and right - a rarity in India! The highlight for me in the evening tour was witnessing from a boat on the Gange's the rituals surrounding the cremation of a body. After that, we assisted at a ceremony to honor the Gange's river. Varanasi smells of incense. I'd been travelling for over a month through South and North India and never took a guide except at The Taj Mahal. I greatly appreciated having our guide in Varanassi. …

Review of: Heritage City Walk
Having arrived into Varanasi late, with minimal preparation, this tour looked like a good way to start our stay in this city, and it did not disappoint. Our guide Sunni was great, taking us down the winding alleys, stopping to discuss points of interest and some amazing eateries. Highlight was the vegetable samosa at our first stop, and the most bizarre was definitely the street dentist! Can't recommend this tour or guide enough, thank you for an excellent afternoon. …
