Apr 2022 • Friends
We took the Delhi to Agra one-day trip on April 2nd 2022. The excellent (!) driver vishal picked us up at our hotel and took us to Agra in a neat and comfortable car. On the way he stopped several times to let us have a quick glance at some landmarks in Delhi - we really enjoyed that! The ride to Agra took about 3 hours in total and we added a quick stop for breakfast and a coffee somewhere along the way. Once we reached Agra we met our guide haider ali, who took us to the Taj Mahl, the Agra Fort and a craftsmen demonstration of Indian marble and inlay art. Haider was very energetic and we enjoyed our time with him very much. He took a lot of pictures, knew a lot of good spots to take pics and was very knowledgeable about the sights as well. We had lunch at a pretty fancy place for Indian standards and it was also really delicious! At the craftsman's stop we were not pressured to buy anything, but we just had a look around and listened to the demonstration.

Great place, very well maintained, has a rich history of several rulers building this palace. You can see the views of Taj Mahal, which the builder of Taj Mahal Shah Jahan had, when he was house-arrested by his son.

Go there early in the day to avoid crowds and long lines. Use the services of a guide to give you information about the various buildings and to take you in the correct direction.

The largest fort in the world, maybe 80+% is off limits and used by the Indian Army as a, well, fort. What you can visit is impressive. There are harems, battlements, moats, royal apartments…and great views off the Taj Mahal. Be sure to hire a guide to understand it all. It’s the other “Must Do” visit in Agra. A visit is about 90 minutes for the full tour.

went here in Oct 2019, but can't select this in the drop down list the date so ignore my date selected (before Covid struck) i was on tour with saga and this fort was well presented , beautiful views to see. i recommend you have a lift up to the top as it is a long way to walk and not particularly suitable for wheelchairs users

Great place to visit from a historical perspective. Take a guide to appreciate the place. but do haggle a bit. We paid Rs. 600. Be prepared to walk quite a bit.

How much is a tuk tuk or rick shaw ride from the Taj Mahal to Agra Fort? What did you negotiate? How long did it take to get between these two places?

I've heard you can't take a bag - is this true? When I've been to places like this before I usually take a small back pack (with water, umberella, phone etc and also to put my shoes in for when I have to take them off to enter certain areas) - and, if this is the case, will they charge to watch my shoes (this happened in Sri-Lanka - where, also, I heard that people's shoes "disappeared" that's why i like to just pop mine in my bag)

Can't remember having to take off shoes and I seem to recall having a small bag with me.

What is the guide charges?

It depends on the level of knowledge and language. We had pre-booked a very knowledgeable one who did the entire tour in English for INR500. There were others there who were willing to do the tour for less, especially as it got later in the day.

How can I book tickets for light and show happen in the night at Red Fort

New Delhi, India157 contributions
There are two shows - Hindi & English, starting around 6:30PM depending on sunset time. The tickets are priced at Rs.70 for Indian & 200 for foreigners and are available at the counter outside the fort.
However, I didn’t find the show worth - though the narration is good, but the light show isn’t impressive. Moreover, the narrative is difficult to hear due to poor speakers.
It’s something you won’t regret skipping.

Non saprei dire a che ora apre l'Agra Fort. Io sono stata verso le ore 15 con una guida locale a inizio febbraio. Parte del forte è chiusa perché è zona militare.

What are the opening and closing hours of the Agra fort? I read from dawn to dusk but what does they really mean in early January? Thanks!

Per alba si intende quando sorge il sole e per tramonto quando il sole va sotto. Ricorda che il Taj Mahal è chiuso il venerdì
