About
Wildlife SOS Agra Bear Rescue Facility is home to nearly 200 sloth bears that were rescued from the brutal practice of bear dancing. The kalandar gypsies that depended on exploiting these bears were established in alternative livelihoods by Wildlife SOS to ensure the safety of the bears and a legal way of life for the community. This center is run entirely from Donations raised by Wildlife SOS. The Forest Department charges an Admission of Rs 500 for Foreign Nationals and Rs 50 for Indians. These fees do not go to support the bear rescue center. Wildlife SOS offers conservation educational visit combined with interaction with bear experts. A donation is requested from visitors to help care for the animals. Receipt is issued for donations. Wildlife SOS also runs India's only Elephant Hospital at the Elephant Conservation & Care Center, home to over 20 rescued elephants ; a 15 min drive from the bear sanctuary. Contact Wildlife SOS for more details.

We visited SOS Elephant conservation centre with kids. It was a wonderful experience especially for kids to know how SOS efforts are helping Elephants and nature and was very thought provoking for them on what they can do as well for nature.
Reading story of each rescue elephant was very moving and it was great to see SOS doing such an amazing work and we could chip in with small contribution in this big effort.
Highly recommend for family to visit.

I visited the Agra bear facility after hearing about Wildlife SOS’ work from a friend and I am SO glad I did. Harendra was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide, and it was clear that all the staff there are very invested in their work. The bears are well cared for and it is truly amazing what this organisation has managed to achieve in such a comparatively short time. I’d definitely visit their other facilities around India whenever I have the chance. Massive shout out and thanks to Harendra!

Visiting the Wildlife SOS bear and elephant sanctuaries in Agra was one of the highlights of my India tour early in 2020. In both instances the private tours were led by knowledgeable and caring staff, the facilities were excellent and the level of commitment and compassion towards the animals was inspiring. Each animal receives personalised care tailored to their specific history and traumas, and it was wonderful to see them living out their lives in such a wonderful environment. It was also so heartening to hear that the SOS program involves the retraining and employment of previous owners and their wives, and education of their children. This ensures that the families have other options and futures that do not include exploiting and abusing elephants and bears. It is not possible to just arrive at the sanctuaries, but entrance can be organised and paid in advance. I would highly recommend both sanctuaries, their professionalism and the security they bring to the animals in their care.

Meeting the elephants, hearing their stories of rescue & rehabilitation, & learning the tortuous treatment elephants endure when taken into captivity, was life transforming. We were moved by the commitment of the staff, deeply appreciated Vipul's knowledge & enthusiasm in conducting our private tour, & offered a bow to the elephant graves. Please STOP riding elephants! The world needs to know the work of Wildlife SOS.

I must say that my two weeks trip to stay and work at Wildlife SOS is the best thing I have ever done. I have never before met so much caring, understanding and love towards animals. Everything was so well thought out, cared and planned for , all for the best of the animals. I was picked up at the airport and driven to the volontaryhouse. The room was clean and the house itself was big and wonderful. We got three wonderful meals a day, the staff was fantastic and I can only say I wish for everyone to get the same experience as I´ve got and if you would like to take a volontarytrip, this is the one you should go on. I hope I will go bakc one day! //Christina from Sweden

I applied for a visit in advance and got such a warm welcome with my family. We were guided through the sanctuary, got a lot of information the rescued sloth bears, got a tour in the kitchen, learned a lot about daily life of the bears and got insights in the volunteer program. Wildlife SOS makes a big difference in the lives of these animals and it's very valuable to visit and see it. The past life of these bears is heartbreaking and here they finally can live in peace. The entrance price may be slightly higher than usual but it's all used as a donation and very needed to take care of the bears. Be sure to apply for a visit by email in advance, as they allow only a few visitors at a time to avoid upsetting the bears due to traumas.
I personally was very impressed by the work and really support Wildlife SOS in the work they do! Thank you so much for providing us the tour.

Great complex excursion provided by very nice and professional staff. It is obvious these people do their job with so much love and compassion. I visited Elephant sanctuary and it was amazing. They explain you everything, answer your questions and then you see all these elephants so peaceful and satisfied. It's worth it! Support these wonderful creatures and all amazing people who cares about them! Thank you for this beautiful experience! I remember you with love!

I was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this experience was. The facilities are very clean, the food is home made and excellent, and best of all, the staff is really lovely. I highly recommend this if you want to spend your time working for animals. Disclaimer: you aren’t allowed to touch the animals (not even the elephants) but believe me, when you learn that it stresses them out to be touched by so many people and you see the happy life they have now, you don’t miss it. Wildlife SOS is doing an excellent job.

I am a wildlife professional and I really recommend everyone to visit this place. Elephants are taken care by highest veterinarian and animal - welfare standards. The guide was very professional, informative and kind. This is not a place where you will make selfies with elephants, but a place that will make you understand all the suffering these magnificent animals are going trough when abused for entertainment. From the city you will have to take a taxi to get there (uber and ola are really cheap for European standards) and arrange with a driver t wait for you until you finish your visit.

What's the best way to travel here from Agra? I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible!
If a tax is suggested what should I be paying to ensure I don't get ripped off?
Thank you!

We booked a specific time slot via the SOS Elephant Sanctuary website. We arrived for the mid-day visiting slot and were there for 2 hours. We chose this start time as we were staying in Bharatpur and it was over an hours drive away. They have a shop with items made by local people with bags, throws, carved items, fridge magnets, T-Shirts, etc. All sales help them raise funds to save more elephants and buy extra land to keep them. There is also a cafeteria for drinks and light snacks. Admission is by a donation (currently 1500INR per person) Do go if you have the chance. You will be moved by the experience.

Hi, I am planning to come to volunteer next weekend. I have two questions. 1. Do you have a place to stay within the sanctuary and can it be booked 2. I have two dogs and they always travel with me, is it possible to get them too or are pets forbidden inside?

Hi I hope you got your visit sorted. To confirm yes they have a volunteer house where you stay, eat etc and they transport you to the sanctuary each day.
Always best to book via the website in advance to ensure they have the space. Thinking dogs probably not allowed but you need to check with SOS
