We paid a guide 300 rupees for a complete tour and English explanation. Was more meaningful due to the guided tour, as temple is very big with many shrines and monuments. Have to pay for an express line to the main shrine, but that was reasonable. A must see.

What can be said of this architectural complex ? A visit to this complex is highly recommended. For its divine and religious value, one must experience it personally. Try visiting the main temple early in the morning to avoid the rush ( say by 0500 hrs).

We sent both in the morning and for the night ceremony. Worshippers were do friendly and warm to us at both, sharing their sweets with us and wanting selfies with us. The uniform and camera rules are strict. Take a good smartphone camera instead. The hawkers are a pain, but just start your haggling at a tenth and they'll disappear.... More

The Sri Meenakshi temple is amazing. The massive temple complex covers 156 acres. The 14 temple towers have beautiful, intricate, colorful carved figures from top to bottom. The tallest tower is over 160 feet high. The colors include soft but vibrant shades of turquoise, pink, yellow, and green -- stunning. Inside the Shiva temple are many statues and paintings although... More

This temple is simply marvellous. If you like visiting historical places, this is one of must do. You will need well over 3 hours to cover the temple. Morning hours are best. We were lucky to see 'Aarathi'. Only issue is parking place. Best option would be take transport from hotel.

What will i say about this mavel or wonder of Madurai. I go here often to pray and get self confiedece. Madurai is so crowded that pregnant people are using its as good walking place and also to pray. Car parking can be a hassle. You need to park like 4 km away from temple.

Very beautiful temple. Usually very crowded, and darshan can easily take hours on a holiday. Buy vip tickets for quicker darshan. Queues are pretty long for free darshan. Try coming here early in the morning(before sunrise) and queue up with Vip ticket
