We covered this temple as part of the Yo Madhurai Nature and spiritual Trails. Have to go with a guide to understand the story, etc. The temple is very old and is very beautiful - a lot of old domes, pillars and architecture has been retained. Its worth the visit, i'd say.

A beautiful temple with Dravidian architecture. It’s situated close to the hills, surrounded by lots of trees & birds. This temple is a must visit if you are in Madurai. Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu/Balaji. Around the temple, they have a small cow shed where one can feed the cows too.

The temple complex is very large.
At the entrance itself, you could have darshan of the temple guardian " 18 pati karuppasamy sannithi".
After having darshan, you could enter the fort wall like structure which is the entrance of the temple..
Inside the temple complex, you have chakkarathazhwar sannithi, yoga narasimmar sannithi which are of much importance and very vibrational..
From here ( Near the exit gate of the entrance) you have a shortcut path to the theertham in the up hill near pazhamuthircholai. You have to walk for a certain distance to reach the theertham..
Very good parking space available..
Toilet facilities are also neat..
Small, budget hotels with home made preparation like food items are so present..
Come, have darshan and feel the vibrations..

At the foot hills this magnificent temple was built for lord Vishnu, considered to be brother of Meenakshi Amman. Worth to see its beautiful structures and Ugra Narasimhan with 16 bahus is a specialty here.

This is 17 km from Madurai.
The time spent here depends on your interest in the sculpture and details of architecture!
Each piece of stone thrown around this huge complex has a unique carving and you may wonder how those timeless treasures are so neglected.
Coming to the gorgeous kalyanamandap and the other ruins each inch is awesome.
Main deity temple, you may become speechless at the details.
