Hundreds of pillars, carved with awesome sculpture and
eye elusive paintings on roof, Equally distanced, a marvel of architecture, you can not believe these were made at that era when no modern building equipment was available. Single stones were transported by elephants with coconut ropes and made of old tools, No computer, graphics etc... Hats off the artists and engineer's of that time.

A marvelous construction and its grandeur always makes us standstill for a while. We can enjoy seeing the sculpture in each and every pillar opposite to Aayiram Kaal Mandapam (hall with 1000 pillars).

This is part of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple and has some very beautiful sculptures. Although not quite a thousand pillars, it a large number of exquisitely carved pillars. Too bad you cannot take pictures as not even cell phones are allowed inside the complex anymore.

An astounding master piece of the Pandian time. Situated inside the Meenakshi Amman campus , this mandapam, or pillared outdoor hall houses around 1000 features exquisite columns with images of fantastic creatures, deities and demons from rich Indo-Chinese tradition, with each pillar displaying a unique unrepeated carving. which was worked in mid of fifteenth century.. One can play with some musical pillars to listen to some Carnatic music by tapping them .
Its astonishing that such perplexing carvings and statues were completed several years back, ……so aesthetic and elegant. There is a statue of Nataraja at the focal point of this lobby.
The is nominal entry fees ( Rs 5/- per person ) to the hall, which also exibits the utensils, weapons, paintings & other articles of that era.
Must see to witness the wonderful carvings with Indian / Indo Chinese tradition

Wonderful sculptures. What a skill our ancestors possess. Worth visiting and spending time to enjoy the great efforts to bring out live to the sculptures. Gigantic 1000 pillar mandapam. To visit leisurely without any rush.

This temple complex is enormous and can be confusing, but if you are basically oriented ("I came in the East Tower and it's..... that way"), you can enjoy just-wandering. This mandapan (or "hall") has endless variety and attracts both casual tourists (Indian and overseas) and serious devotees (worshippers). Everything about it is worthwhile. There is a modest access fee for the hall.

The hall of thousand pillars(Ayiramkal Mandapam):
The largest mandapam in the holy Meenakshi temple complex, this mandapam is situated near Veeravasantharayar Mandapam to the north. This was built by Ariyanatha Mudaliyar, minister and commander of Viswanatha Naicker in the year 1569.

When the temple is closed you cannot enter the inner temple area. But you can visit the outer temple area. The Ayiram kal mandapam is in the inner circle..
