Overview
We at "Foodies Day Out" offer you the chance to experience the local cuisine as the natives do. We take you to places where no guide book can lead you to. On this tour, we travel across the city of Madurai, to taste the best culinary dishes the city has to offer. We drive around in a car to eat the best signature dishes of our local eateries and also walk along the streets to indulge ourselves in uninhibited eating spree. You will get to taste some unique "madurai" dishes, such as paruthipaal (cotton seed milk), thennam kuruthu (bark of the coconut tree), bun parotta, the super delicious Jil Jil Jigar Thanda etc.

We had such a great experience on this tour. Our guide, Soundar, brought us to delicious places that we would never have found on our own. He was an excellent and friendly guide. We learned a bit about the history and culture of Madurai, in addition to trying lots of tasty food. We had a wonderful time talking about Tamil movies and life in Madurai, while eating all sorts of great food. We would highly recommend this tour to someone visiting Madurai.

An excellent way to sample Madurai’s specialities off the beaten track. We visited restaurants and food stalls which enabled us to taste a very broad range of food.

This excellent tour was guided by Soundar. We visited a number of eating places for savoury and sweet foods, as well as the opportunity to see how they were made. We visited places, where, unguided we might have been hesitant to visit. Explanations of how, when and where the cooking style was created, changes over the years e.g. millet to rice and challenges to our palate to see if we could discern what we were eating or drinking: we failed dismally on the cotton seed milk. In summary, a faultless interesting tour, even for late age travellers!! Simon Hanley +447828417512

We have tried food tours around the world and love them as a way of learning more about a citiy' culture and of course the food that you don’t get in hotels and tourist restaurants. Soundar's tour of Madurai was no exception and we had a great time trying new tastes and experiences of Madurai. Soundar was very likeable and knowledge and I'd thoroughly recommend.
