Since 1965 Coimbatore has this park and zoo in the center between Gandhipuram and Junction railway station. It is named after V.O. Chidambaram, who opposed British rule early 1900s. As a matter of principle I did not visit the zoo to watch locked up aninals, but I did explore the adjacent park and entertainment areas. Perhaps children like the Jurassic section with plastic dino's and young couples can find a place to get to know each other better. As with many city parks in India there is room for improvement.

I have visited VOC park lot of times with my parents since childhood, recently on 31st Dec'22, with my parents, son & brother (Nithish) for Taj Mahal exhibition.
It has got a wonderful view of miniature of Taj Mahal, and entrance ticket costs Rs.80 per head. It has got lot of stalls for food, toys etc., and lot of amusement rides were available for entertainment.
We have spent a pleasant evening there.

If you ignore the cleanliness bit, you would be definitely surprised with the collection they have here.
A bit tiny, and depressing for the inhabitants. Takes roughly an hour, if you go slowly, clicking pictures, reading the placards.
Children will definitely enjoy.
Fairly cheap tickets, didn't try the train ride though.

If you have kids please do take them here. There is a good array of animals and birds and it will ensure that you have a morning well spent. There is enough tree cover to make sure that the walk is comfortable. There is a little train ride option as well. And a huge park just outside so that one can play as much as they want after the zoo.

Well kept and compact zoo in the middle of the Coimbatore city. Animals range from crocodiles, snakes to a variety of fauna and deers. They also have a nice toy train ride around the park. Best to go with young kids and children.

In the park they have peacocks,ducks,emu,deer,monkeys, parrots, snakes, crocodiles.. good for children visit.. but lovers pls note this not your private place mind that keep distance and enjoy well roaming.. park administration need to improve cleanliness..
