Wenlock Downs 9th Mile Shooting Point is one of the famous places in and around Ooty. We went there on our way to Ooty from Pykara.
There are entry tickets for the view point. Just buy yours and start walking towards the hill top. It is not very high, but the way to the top is quite sloppy. You have to climb a hillock to enjoy the nature to the fullest. You will get a 360-degree view from the top.

It's a nice trail and has beautiful views all around. Our son was just running here and there. We went in the evening time and it was a little cloudy. But the clouds were just adding to the beauty of the place. You have to take the ticket and they charge for the camera as well. We had a very nice experice. The view from the top was breathtaking.

Just go to this place and spend a very good time. It gives you a landscape view of Western ghats and greenery. You can sit at any place in this entire view point and you will still have a breathtaking view. If you are planning from ooty, the route covers Pyakara waterfalls, 9th mile, 6th mile, Shooting point, Golf course. Although none of them is worth a visit. Its better to just go to 9th mile and for that you willl find regular buses from ooty going and return. And then you can cover local sighseeing of Ooty.

It's a small uphill on the way to Pykra lake. The zig zag path adds to the beauty of the small hill. Windy place and lot to see landscapes around.must visit place.

Little away from ooty towards pykara lake this small hill offer amazing 360 degree views of ooty hillside. From road 5-10 mins. gentle climb on hill to reach top.
Place is nice and beautiful to spend some quality time with family and friends. Place got its name probably after no of bollywood and south indian film shot here. Far away hills covered with lush green forests adds a charm to the overall beauty of the place.
Horse riding is also available at the base of the hill.

Wenlock Downs 9 th mile
😍
This is one of my favourite go to places in Ooty
This is popularly known as 9 th Mile shooting spot
It offers panoramic view of the Udhagamanandalam valley
It has got its name - as it’s exactly 9 miles away from Ooty
Quite a popular tourist spot
It is known as shooting medu - many Tamil and Indian movies 🎥 are shot at this place
It’s open from 8 am to 7 pm
There is a nominal entry fee of 5 rupees
How to reach : take a route via pykaraa lake while coming from bangalore it’s before Ooty .
Do not miss to visit this place and capture some landscape pictures

We took a horse ride although quite expensive it was good. The place is dirtied by Horse Dung otherwise its a very scenic place. They charge a nominal fee of Rs 5. Must visit place for everyone. There are simiilar places on both sides of the road which is less frequented by people. Maybe you can try those as well.6th mile is not that great. there are electric poles and wires in the midst of the scenery which spoils it. There is a tribal village (toda) which we did not visit , but heard it is good as well. April , May the grass is dried and it might not be appealing visually compared to other seasons when it is lush green.

6th Mile a.k.a Shooting Spot is in Ooty situated at a distance of just 9.66 Kms from Ooty that converts to exactly 6 miles. This tourist spot is green, extensive and replete with dense forest. Most of the Indian movies feature this shooting spot owing to its natural beauty. Its a good place for photographers..9th Mile is another Shooting Spot situated at a distance of 14.49 Kms from Ooty or 9 miles exactly. This is also a tourist spot in Ooty that was made popular owing to its green forest areas & mountains that surrounds this region. This place is also referred to as the 'Shooting Medu' where several South Indian Movies and Bollywood Movies have been filmed. This place is extremely calm and scenic lending a perfect venue for picnics and hangout zone. Dont Miss this view in case if you are traveling to OOty.

We are planning to visit this place in November first week. How is the climate during this time - do we need to bring Jerkin or its manageable without it.
Also, what is the best time to see this place - Morning/Evening or Afternoon is also fine?
Written 5 October 2016
Hi Rajesh. As winter starts in November, you might not see much greenery at shooting spot as they starts to burnt due to cold weather. But climate is Damn good if you are a snow lover. Its recommended to carry the Jerkin. Evening (Sunset) will be good to visit shooting spot.
