Lake Pichola is the beating heart of Udaipur, a place that enchants at every hour of the day. During my stay, I found myself returning to its tranquil shores, each visit bringing new memories. Mornings were a peaceful affair, with flocks of birds gliding over the calm water, while afternoons invited me to unwind at one of the lakeside cafes, enjoying a leisurely meal with a view of the sparkling lake. The evenings were magical, especially during the Gangaur festival, when women, adorned in vibrant traditional attire, gathered on the ghats, singing soulful songs that echoed across the water. Dining on the lake’s edge, with the grand palaces and heritage hotels reflecting in the clear water, was a sight to behold. But perhaps the most unforgettable experience was the boat ride at sunset, when the sky was ablaze with hues of orange and pink, casting a dreamlike glow over the entire lake. Lake Pichola became more than just a destination—it was a place that captured my heart over and over, leaving me with lasting memories of its timeless beauty.

We actually went on a boat here twice. First time from the municipality boat house just below karni mata temple. This was nice. We skipped the queues by booking the premium boats (only about 20 ppl). As we were 3 people, and the boat has a configuration of 2 seats together, the boatman was quite insistent that the 3 person (my child) sit far away , but we stayed our ground and finally he relented. Journey was smooth and lake was peaceful and magical.

Next time we booked a round trip to Jagmandir from City Palace and it was a quick trip back and forth, but while coming back, there was some delay and the lines were huge.

I would highly recommend either experience. It looks amazing and is worth it.

Lake Pichola in Udaipur is a serene and picturesque gem, offering stunning views of the city's palaces and temples. A boat ride on the lake is a must, especially around sunset when the golden light reflects off the water, creating a magical ambiance. The lake's calm waters, surrounded by historic architecture like the City Palace and the Lake Palace, add to the charm. Whether you're strolling along the banks or enjoying a peaceful boat ride, Lake Pichola is a beautiful and tranquil experience that captures the essence of Udaipur's beauty and history.

We took a sunset cruise and highly recommend that you do so, too. The lake at dusk was lovely and less crowded than during the day. Our guide arranged a private sailing at 6pm for us and we thus we were at Jag Mandir in time for sunset about 635. Well worth it.

Lake Pichola is the heart of Udaipur.. it's beautiful at any time of the day!
We visited it multiple times during our stay and never had a dull moment.. be it early morning with birds flocking near its banks or late afternoons.. for a lazy lunch in one of the lake side cafes .. or evenings of gangaur, when ladies.. decked up in festive attire...sang beautiful songs on the steps of the lake.. Or mesmerizing dinner on a lakeside cafe overlooking the colorful reflection of the surrounding palace hotels in the clear pichola water.
Lake pichola won our hearts over and over again.
And the boat ride on Lake pichola was amazing as well.. most beautiful sunset hues.

The small lake pichola, good place to walk, and take good photos, at dawn or evening, have a coffee or eat with views of the lake.
It has some islands, in one of them a beautiful hotel. All in white.

We had pre-booked tickets with a tour. I was expecting a bit of a tourist trap on a dirty lake. In fact, the boat ride was a very pleasant experience taking in some great views along the lake. Definitely worth doing while you visit the area.

It is a pleasant way to spend a peaceful 45 minutes on the lake where the full majesty of the lakeside buildings can be observed. The boats are frequent but there are not frequent enough for the volume of people wanting to ride. You will have to wear a life vest which will almost certainly will not fit but that's a small price to pay for escaping the chaotic queuing where there seems no organised or sensible system in place and everyone pushes and heads for a small doorway to the steps down to the boat. Madness, all of it and management common sense completely missing here!

One of the things that you can do in Udapiur. I recommend to take buy tickets for a boat ride in advance and spend nice 2 hours on the lake and at the island in the middle of the lake. The ride is nice and this is one of the biggest attractions of the city.
