We had a very thorough and enthusiastic guide whose heart and soul was in the project. The group’s goal of administering medical assistance to injured street animals is worthy of great praise.
The founders should be proud of what they have accomplished.
Well done!

Animals Aid Unlimited are doing an amazing job. As someone with some years of experience of NGO work, I can confidently say that this place is pretty well organized. Next to their actual rescue work (which some people in the review section seem to forget, is their primary function) they give insightful tours.
For any tourist to India, if you have 2-3 hrs in Udaipur to spare, visit the center and learn why there are so many street dogs in India, how Cows are really treated in commercial dairy farms and how animal rights are neglected. It is totally worth the visit and does not cost you a dime. Come and learn.
thank you guys and keep up the good work!

I, a tourist and donor, have now visited it 3 times over the years during a day trip. You will then receive an explanation and be allowed to play with the disabled animals in the shelter. You may possibly also work as a volunteer. Absolutely bona fide. I talked to the 2 founders. 2 elderly Americans who started this after their retirement, ?for about 18 years now? and growing it into what it is today. Their website is very transparent, here you will find all the information. They are number 1 with You Tube videos with animal help! Fake accounts are even being created on YT and Paypall now, they are so popular.

A friend and I volunteered for a day at Animal Aid. The people running the centre do an amazing job to help these animals but I found it very upsetting. The handicapped dogs who will see out their days here live in awful conditions. I am an animal lover and have a dog but I can honestly say that I believe that many of these street dogs would be better off euthanised. Street dogs are such a major problem in India. Many of these dogs are fixed up and returned to the streets.
I was too uupset to spend much time with the dogs so instead spent the day feeding and brushing the calves and sheep which was lovely.
Cows are sacred in India and cannot be euthanized so instead they are given painkillers so they do not suffer and then just wait to die. I know many people love helping all the animals here but sadly I found it most depressing.
The centre has water buffalo, cows, goats, sheep, chickens and any other animal in need.

Went in Oct, 2018. Three days of volunteering and we haven’t been the same since. This animal hospital works miracles and we think about going back every day. We are regular donors and dream of going back to volunteer for as long as possible.

I have supported this charity for a couple of years having found it whilst arranging a holiday to India, so a trip to Udaipur and a visit to Animal Aid Unlimited wasn't to be missed. When I arrived I was truly gobsmacked. The amount of animals they are saving is staggering. They are all happy and content with life. I sat or 2 hours in "Handicap Heaven" for the most part in tears Some from sadness of the extremely handicapped dogs around me (some with only 1 leg, others so badly paralzysed that they had to drag themselves around) but also from the sheer joy and awe I felt for these people. In the West these dogs, and there were around 100 plus handicapped, would have been destroyed but they were being given the chance of life and boy were they enjoying it. I saw them receiving physio, exercise using specially adapted wheels on carts and hydro therapy. I have seen for myself where our money goes and it is on the animals NOT administration. I cannot express enough my awe and admiration for Erika and Jim and what they have achieved here

This was the best and most memorable part of our trip to India. I wish I could have stayed and volunteered on a daily basis. The work they do and the incredible care these animals get is just amazing. Yes, you will see some sad things but that is really not the feeling you will be left with. The animals are so happy, you can see how much they love and trust their caregivers and how much they love pets from the volunteer visitors. And you also see the love and dedication the staff have to these animals. It really is a happy, joyful place that will love you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. The animals get physical therapy, there is a hydrotherapy pool, there are carts for the disabled dogs to go running in...they are so well taken care of. The daily checklists for the animals even has a box for ‘giving them love’. They get so much love and attention on top of the great medical and rehabilitative care the center provides. Visit, donate, you’ll be happy you did.

Spent most of the day crying seeing so many injured animals but you have to remember this place is a GREAT place, doing so much good work for orphaned, injured and mistreated animals, mostly cows, dogs and donkeys, but they will pretty much help ANY animal in need. This place was shown on Paul O'Grady's tv show which has thankfully helped in the number of volunteers working here and thank god that's the case because this place needs volunteers. The place is filled with cows walking round with broken legs in casts, dogs with only 2 or 3 legs and sad stories of every kind of animal imaginable, but the good going on at this place is absolutely incredible and the atmosphere created by those working there is infectious. Some people come for a day and end up working for months and it seems people love working there. As tourists we did our bit, as anyone can, by turning up, being shown around the place, you can spend the day brushing, feeding and petting the cows, dogs, sheep, piglets, chickens, etc. and ideally leave a donation or buy a gift before you leave. This place receives hundreds of phone calls every day to help animals and needs your help in any small way you can, so please go by and visit them or even better to help out for a while. I was literally blown away by how good this place is, from watching the dogs with only 1 or 2 legs running round with their back wheels attached 3 times a day to hugging the super-friendly sheep who survived a huge truck crash where most of them died, to feeding the baby cows and piglets. Mega place. We spent the whole day there and if it wasn't for a tight itinerary would have gone back for more to help out.

Hi Hanna! I saw you mentioned you went to Udaipur pretty much just to volunteer at Animal Aid Unlimited... Can I ask you, where did you stay when you were there? I too am primarily going to Udaipur to volunteer there and am looking for accomodation recommendations. I'm cool with whatevs... AirB&B to Hostels, to hotels.... if you could let me know whats close and if it's good I'd be truly grateful!
Also, what kinds of things did you do when you were there and for how long?
Thanks again soooo much!

Not Hanna but I would recommend the Moustache Udaipur. They've got dorm beds for as low as 275 rupees a night. I just spent a few days there with my family and the guys who run the place are young and very friendly and take a lot of care with the place. Google moustachehostel and Udaipur in particular.
