What you need to know before you visit is that crocodiles are cold blooded animals who can't regulate their body temperature, so in the winters when it's cold they need warmth of sunshine and in the summers they need coolness of water. Gharials bask daily in the cold season, foremost in the mornings, and prefer sandy and moist beaches. They change their basking pattern with increasing daily temperatures; they start basking earlier in the mornings, move back into the river when it is hot, and return to the beach later in the afternoon.
Naturally the safari guys will tell you that anytime you visit you'll see a lot of crocs but that isn't true. Winters is the best time to see a lot of crocs as they bask on the beach and you can observe them, in summers they remain in water mostly so you'll just see their snout or the outline of their back. In summers the best time is early morning or late afternoon and in winters the daytime when sunshine is full. Irrespective of all this, anytime you visit you'll see around 3-4 crocs/gharials for sure. The objective of the safari is to see crocs afterall you can have a boat ride in any lake.
However the safari guys are knowledgeable, polite and make all the efforts to get you the best possible sighting at the time.

Verry serene location to relax on a winter sunnny day. Rudra Pratap 070140 71463 helped us with the location and arranged a comfortable boat ride to spot the Crocodiles and Ghadiyal.
They also serve Maggi & Tea
Good for day visit

Don't bother going here unless it's sunny. Crocodiles will only come out if it's sunny. It's quite a distance from Sawai Madhopur so don't waste your time and money going there without checking the weather. The boating experience itself is overrated and overhyped. Not worth visiting. You can see plenty of crocodiles lazing in the sunshine, all along the banks of the lake on your tiger safari inside the sanctuary.

Rudrapratap and his team run a small unit at Palighat Chambal Safari.
They are professional I had booked my crocodile safari with him in advance & we really had a good time. His boatmen are very knowledgeable & patient. They answered all our questions showed us around well. We spotted many fresh water crocodiles & baby ghariyaals along with many bird. My kids really enjoyed the boat safari. If you are doing Ranthambore than I will definitely recommend doing the Palighat Chambal Crocodile safari . Must do it with Rudrapratap

I was so terrified at first but this safari was a life changing experience for me. I had been following up with Rudra Pratapji since July but the safari is closed for the rainy season and it finally opened up in the month of October. We went for a morning safari around 8 am. It was still cloudy but we could spot 2-3 Crocodiles and Ghadiyal chilling at the bank of the river before we started with our boat ride. Had a great conversation about the Chambhal River, the underwater life it carries and how it has been an essential part of the lives of people who live on the banks. A great myth buster was Crocodiles, Alligators and Gharial ( Gavialis, in English) are three different species. Gharials have a long peaked mouth, they are sensitive to human sound, has soft teeth and only eat fishes. Rudra ji told us how he and his friends have been swimming in the Chambhal river all his growing up years and there has been no incident of Gharials attacking humans. Both humans and Gharials coexist in the nature together.
We finally took to our motor boat. We had booked a private boat for 3 people but you can also choose to share the boat with other people for a small amount of ₹500. The boat usually takes you around what they call “Nesting lands” of the Gharials. They love the warmth of sun and comes out at the bank for sunbathing and just chilling. We spotted more than a dozen crocodiles and Gharials. Not only were they chilling at the bank but were also swimming along our boat. The Chambhal river divides the state of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh so one side of the bank is Rajasthan’s Pali and Kota District and the other side is MP. Winters is the best time of the year to visit here as the Government of Rajasthan authorised Chambhal PaliGhat Safari Camp is fully operational with Tents setup for tourists and travelers . You can book a night stay, take a boat safari in the evening and enjoy the stay by the river side at night. This place is just one hour drive, around 40km from Ranthambore Tiger Safari, so next time you’re in Ranthambore for Tiger Safari don’t forget to come visit the Gharials n Crocodiles of Chambhal 😍. Do contact Rudrapratapji for your bookings and stay at 7014071463. He is really nice and his conversation says a lot about how close he is to the Chambhal river and the place. Why I said it was a life changing experience for me because I was dead scared of Gharials and Crocodiles and now I can chill around them.😂 We had a superb experience and would visit super soon again! 😋😍

We signed up with Rudrapratap Singh.
He organised the taxi pick, drop and boating activities.
The service was prompt and friendly.
Since we were only 2 adults and an infant, We had the option of sharing with another family. Thus the cost was reduced and we were were charged 500 INR per adult.
Failing which we would have had to pay 800 INR per adult for a dedicated boat.
The boat ride was excellent. We got to see plenty of alligators and crocs.
Maggie and tea is available at the boating point.
Tips - stock up on water and any other food items you may require. Being on the river bank there are no shops at the boating point.
In case you are a small group ( less than 4 adults) insist on waiting for people and sharing. It is more cost effective.
Overall a wonderful experience. Must visit.
Happy Travels. 😀

Its a nice place if you are a wildlife enthusiast. You can do a boat safari in Chambal river and see many crocodiles and ghariyals from close by. One can enjoy some time on the river banks playing some games or just clicking pics. Must try Maggi in dhaba near the river.

I have a couple of foreigner friends visiting Ranthambore and have half a day free. Is the crocodile sanctuary worth? If yes, could you share the contact of the person who planned it for you. What was the cost?

I definitely did not check as I stay in Gurgaon and it is less than an hour travel to that place but I doubt as there's something very nearby. I remember some reviewers indicating a hotel nearby but do not remember the name.
Unless you want to stay there itself you can choose options at Gurgaon (Sector 10 is nearest developed Sector) or Basai village as this sanctuary is very close to that place.
