Zenana Mahal was the palace of the queens. According to a belief, this palace was built in order to safeguard women. To keep men away, it was guarded by eunuchs day and night. The rock carvings and sandstones enhance the beauty of the palace.

Zenana mahal is one of the last place while one visit the Mehrangarh Fort..
The place for Queens and their dasi..mens are not allowed in this place..their rooms with Jharokha..the terrace for their timepass..very charming n lively..

Zenana Mahal, the erstwhile royal abode of Jodhpur queens, is an integral part of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. In the yesteryears, nearly two-third area of the fort was reserved for the zenana(women). One of the prominent courts dedicated to the Jodhpur queens was the Moti Mahal Chowk, which displays architectural splendour of the bygone era. A number of jharokhas (windows) with jali screens and bangaldar eaves can be seen in the three wings of this court.

We visited Zenana Mahal, the palace of queens in the Mehrangarh Fort as part of our guided private tour of Jodhpur. Our guide explained many cultural and architectural details, how life of the maharaja, women and other men was hundreds of years ago. How women were not allowed to be directly involved in men's business but were still present at the scene through the ornamented blinders in the buildings facing the yards. I was also surprised to learn that they had three types of rooms for summer, winter and monsoon time, with water-cooled air for the summer and heat-conserving rooms in the winter. When we wandered around in the place today, we could not help being amazed at the fantastic level of sophistication that this Indian high culture developed more than five hundred years ago. I highly recommend a visit.

This is a part of the Mehran Garh fort complex and is bundled with the tour of the fort. The ladies' palace has stunning jharokhas and a large courtyard.

The ladies part of the fort is rather different to other parts, casting light on the lifestyle that they led, well hidden away from prying eyes.
The Jhanki Mahal colonnade area of it now houses royal cradles from the last two centuries.
