- M. PassiChennai District, India9 contributionsBeautiful monuments but dirty, filthy, unsafe placeBeautiful monuments but very very dirty with an extremely noisy, unnecessary toy train going around in the premises. Also, the gardens and monuments are full of langoors, some fairly aggressive so it is difficult to enjoy the place. We left before the sound and light show started. Quite sad to see such beautiful structures going to seed. Rather poor maintenance and management by the Jodhpur tourism/ conservation department. Very limited information present on sight about the historical significanceVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 October 2023
- PavalikaVChennai (Madras), India536 contributionsOK ish.Nicely maintained garden. Take electric cart and be done with one full circuit at slow pace by paying ₹10 per person. Be there if you wish to laze around in evenings. Nothing to rave. Wish neatly maintained clean budget friendly good enough food joints exists at the entrance.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 October 2023
- Helvetia198172 contributionsPretty park but not well maintainedIt's a beautiful park with pretty temples and lots of cute monkeys. Unfortunately it's dirty and not well maintained, that's why I give it only 3 out of 5 points. Go there in the late afternoon, the light for pictures is then the best. We were not impressed by the "lightshow".Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 November 2023
- grahamrsimmsHong Kong, China155 contributionsBeautiful, but poor maintenance.I spent a couple of hours here and it's a really beautiful place, but unfortunately the poor maintainance lets it down. It's actually heartbreaking that such an architecturally significant place could be neglected like this. It's still worth a visit, but be prepared for the litter, especially in the upper areas.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2023
- arzanstudioMumbai, India350 contributionsGo there in the evening to catch the light and sound show. This is a place you should see during the evening. Possibly get in time to see the sun go down. The monuments here are well lit, and hence you get some good visuals whilst it’s dark too. The fountains and their lighting could have been a little subtle, instead of the light colours blaring out, but it’s something you can overlook. The high point of Mandore is the sound and light show which starts at 6:30 pm everyday. I have seen quite a few of these shows, but this one was spectacular. The way they have projected moving images on the structures there is quite fascinating. The place comes alive with the colours projected on the spires. Definitely worth a visit.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 December 2023
- Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India2,131 contributionsInteresting Light & Sound ShowVisited the Garden in the evening. The Garden is situated slightly at the outskirt of the city. There was an entry fee of Rs. 30 including Light & Sound show. The garden premises is quite expansive and reasonably maintained. There is a toy train for a small ride through the garden. The garden complex houses couple of pretty cenotaphs and ancient temples. The evening light & sound show depicting the ancient history of Mandore was quite interesting. Overall, reasonably well time spent in the evening.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 January 2024
- ilseLeuven, Belgium7 contributionsNice, Green place to relax...Nice, quiet place to relax after the busy city of Jodhpur. The museum was nice to see, and the cenotaphes were beautiful. The train in the garden was a bit stupid since it only stopped at the Temple and museum and not at the cenotaphes... so We had to walk back again! Some places were not so well maintained...Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 February 2024

The gardens could do with better upkeep as there are areas left with water stagnantion and wild growth. We paid a local guide to give us a short talk as we visited around the gardens.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 March 2024
- FHTR In RajasthanJaipur, India259 contributionsGardens of MandoreMandore, situated roughly 8 kilometers north of Jodhpur, was once the capital of the Marwar Maharajas. Today, Mandore is a popular tourist destination known for its sprawling Mandore Gardens, featuring high rock terraces. Within the gardens lie unique dewals, or cenotaphs, dedicated to Jodhpur's past rulers. Unlike the typical chhatri-shaped cenotaphs found throughout Rajasthan, these impressive structures resemble Hindu temples. Built from red sandstone, they stand four stories tall with elegant spires and finely crafted columns. The most magnificent dewal belongs to Maharaja Ajit Singh. These cenotaphs are beautifully integrated within the landscaped gardens, with the Maharani's cenotaphs positioned on a rocky outcrop overlooking the hills.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 April 2024

There is evidence that this was once a beautiful garden with well maintained monuments and waterways with marble fountains. Sadly it has fallen into disrepair with stagnant water and plastic bottles floating on the weed covered surface. Some work seems to be going on but it is likely to be a year or two if not more before this will be worth visiting

Mandore Garden is a beautiful tourist spot which is 9 kms far away from the main city. The Mandore garden is the collection of memorials and temples of the Marwar dynasty. The major attraction of Mandore gardens is the Royal cenotaphs.
The Royal Cenotaphs are made of red stone. Each cenotaph is unique and completely different from one other. The major attraction is the cenotaph of Maharaja Ajit Singh built in 1793. It is the largest cenotaph in the gardens with a combination of temple and cenotaph.
Hall of Heroes is another famous spot. There is a huge temple in Mandore garden is the Hindu temple with the images of several Hindu deities with beautiful paintings. The beautiful images of 33 crore gods are designed in the form of Lucent colourful images.
The Government Museum in Mandore gardens is another attraction. This museum displays the artefacts and the old relics of this region.
In this garden Langur monkeys roam. Langur monkey troupes roaming in the garden and making a nuisance of themselves is an attraction here. A number of troupes of Langur monkeys roam near the lake.
Finally, if you climb the hill. You can watch the ruined Mandore Fort and its Palace, Ravana Temple.

The Mandore fort and garden was the place of the old capital before Jodhpur.. around 10 kms from the present city. The place has gardens , old temple, cenotaphs spread over a wide area but we should go further and go around the Mandore fort ruins.. Though there was no appropriate sign boards to guide to the Fort ruins at the end of the huge garden area, we climbed up though some pathway -steps and reached the ruins and only after reaching there, we had a full view of many ruined structures like the temples, the old fort walls etc. Mandore Fort offers the tourists to visit a ruined fort that was once the royal capital. For those who are curious, this will be very interesting and must visit

If you are looking to explore some temple architecture of ancient Rajasthan this will be a nice place. Unfortunately it is not very well maintained. But I was told by the local cafe owner within the complex that in next 1 year or so major renovations and maintenance work will be undertaken. So plan your visit in winter of 2021 per later. It gives you plenty of opportunities to improve your photography skills. Plan your visit early during the day

Although many tourists don't visit the garden, Mandore garden is worth visiting. It has beautiful temples and the ruins are surrounded by garden, which makes it a good spot for picnic. You can spot langoors here and also folk musicians playing and teaching traditional Rajasthani melodies. The garden is a little far from the centre and maybe this is the reason it is not very crowded. As it is not crowded with tourists, it is a must visit place to appreciate the beauty of the garden.

Mandore garden is about 7-8 kms away from the centre of the city. In case you are going by auto they usually charge Rs200 but charged me Rs. 280.
There is a museum inside with some temples, a food court and some trails to walk upon. Nothing much to see..

The Garden of Mandore is located to the north of the city. Accessible by tuktuk, taxi or bus. Entrance costs 25 INR per person, which is very cheap.
The site includes a wall of heroes and deities, sculptures dug directly into the rock and now protected by glass. The cenotaphs are very beautiful and very well preserved. They look like small Hindu temples but they are not. You still have to take off your shoes to go inside, as a sign of respect.
At the bottom, there is an old palace (Janana palace) where a museum is currently located. Just ahead, a tower on the right with openwork windows and delicate sculpture work. At the very bottom, once you have passed the row of ponds, a path provides access, via a steep slope, to the ruins of a fort. The view is clear and you can see the city in the distance.
The garden, overall, is in average condition. There are efforts being made to try to maintain the place but there is so much to do! Rubbish everywhere litters the ground and the pools. The water is brackish, dirty. The people who frequent the place are quite insistent, between selfies, photos, questions and even mockery.
This place, shunned by tourists, has potential but unfortunately, there is a long way to go before the place is in a satisfactory state. Allow between 1 hour and 2 hours if you decide to go to this garden, which is not essential.

Parking at entrance Rs 20 per car
Area is under renovation and development by local government. Presently free to visit but a ticket counter suggests very soon it will have an entrance fee. Great historical monuments to see but poorly maintained area littered with plastic and waste dumped by tourists. A museum inside with separate entry tkt. Worth skipping. Huge potential to improve the area and develop into a tourist spot.

Mandore was capital of Jodhpur during royal kings time before Mehrangarh fort was built. This is now having a huge garden, some memorial place. A lot of local comes here for their daily walk. They have light and sound show as well which run on 3 days Mon/wed/Friday. We could not see that.

Had anybody been to mandore Garden after sunset. Is it worth after daylight as regards to overall sight seeing and photography. Are there provisions of lighting.
Written 10 January 2019
Hello kedar,
Since it's a garden with lots of trees and temples.
It's not good after sunset for photography purpose as they don't have any lights in area.
Visit this place during natural light (day time) you will get really good pictures.

Why do you say Mandore garden is not a place to go alone. Do you mean alone for girls or for everyone?
Written 28 January 2017
Not sure, if one can go alone. Seeing the kind of crowds, it may be a better idea to take someone along.

Hello;
I don't know if it's too late for you ,may be you already are gone to India and Jodhpur. For Mandore Garden, it's free. If you want to do something nice for you there, buy peanuts and dry peas (you will get it for a few rupies..) and if you want, some bananas too..;With that,at the end of your visit, you will arrive to the second gate (opposite from the main entry).Ther, you call the monkeys (langure monkeys in french) with the black face and a long tail and the babies will come to take the fruits in your hand. Don't worry, they are realy very kind and pacific (not like the macaque); I promise to you you will enjoy and take very nice pictures. In Jodhpur,if you look for a good and comfortable stay, you can go to the Yogi's guest house and tell to the owner (She is a very nice woman who can give you very good advices for many things there) you are coming from Chowdry Ji (me).Have a nice trip and enjoy to Bharat Mata (Mother India). Friendly.
