Sam Sand Dunes are around 50 KM from Jaisalmer City. There are many tour operators who provide the complete package of to and fro drops, dinner at the camp with cultural show and Jeep Safari with Dune bashing. We drove to Sam. Beautiful road, the view of desert and the huge and numerous wind mills make it so scenic. We had booked the cultural evening through one of the friends. There are many options in terms of camps with options for night stay too. We checked in Spirit Desert Camp which had semi luxurious and AC tents too. The Open Thar Jeep took us for the Desert Safari and it was total fun. The Dune bashing is just awesome. Loved the thrill and the open air. Did a camel Ride in the desert. There are small make shift shops which provide water, cold drinks, tea and maggi. The Sunset from the dunes is amazing. Came back to the camp and enjoyed the cultural evening. Rajasthani folk songs and dance. Rajasthani food was served. The cultural evening and the food was not worth the cost. The food was not at all good. As we had our bookings done at Jaisalmer, we returned back. Please ensure to check your fuel gauge before movibg out of Jaiselmer. There are not fuel stations towards Sam and the first fuel station you will find is in the main city only.

Before you get to the site negotiate the price and be prepared to walk away (there are other camps available). I was ripped off badly and paid way over the price because my driver just took me there (many kilometres off the main road). You don't need to do the camel ride if you don't want to. The meal was average and the dancers just went through the motions for the tourists. I slept in the desert under the stars - a magical if cold experience. If you're going to do that you must take a hat.

It’s a must visit during Jaiselmer trip , stay for the night for some traditional music and local Rajasthani cuisine. Came safari is a must . Night stay in tents is very cold in the winters so be well prepared.
