We visited this shop three times during our stay in Jaisalmer. The first time just to see what was available, quality wise, compared to the other stores. The second time was to buy after we determined that the quality was way higher than the other places in town. We especially were attracted to the Lotus Silk fabrics. So smooth and elegant and not containing any animal products (like silk or wool) although those are on offer as well. The third time was to get MORE! We love good fabrics and they make great gifts.
The colors, quality, selection, patterns available here are truly wonderful.
The vibe from the two proprietors was also lovely: informative, generous with their time, not pushy and also somewhat wise and worldly. We hade some good conversations.
Full recommendation if you are interested in high quality fabrics from reliable vendors.

Was always reluctant to buy scarfs from the many shops we visited... “100% cashmere, highest quality, softest material etc. etc.” then quoting 3500 rupees for camel scarf and quickly reducing to 2500. After visiting 4/5 of these stores we came to shayama on 5 star trip advisor reviews, we were not disappointed.
Instantly we were shown camel scarfs identical to that we had just seen in other stores, and quoted the “last price” we were given previously but on first walking in, despite our white skin and without saying anything first.
The kind and very gentlemanly shopkeeper then persisted to politely explain all the differences between the materials ... 2 ply 6 ply 8 ply, camel, cashmere, pashmina, 120 thread, 160 thread ... it really helps to actually understand why certain scarfs feel softer than others and what constitutes a higher price. The best example is ply means the number of weaves intertwined (think hair braiding) 2 ply is thin whereas 8 ply is thick - this gives the feeling of a fluffier softer scarf which can be misinterpreted as higher quality.
moreover you are able to compare with what you have been previously shown in other stores and quoted as 100% cashmere, highest quality, and asked to pay $100+... they all have the same designs and actually buy from the family weavers i.e. shayama. For instance we were shown 6 ply 180 camel thread as “100% cashmere and asked 12,500 rupees at a place in udaipur, he gave us a last price of 5,000... in shayama it is around 3,000.
The cashmere we felt here we had not seen anywhere else, all others had been camel. The price was 4500 for 8ply highest cashmere.
Needless to say we bought around 8 scarfs between two, and did very little bargaining (5-10% less). Even if we have overpaid slightly we did not mind as the shopkeeper is very pleasant, with no pushy sales tactics and you don’t feel cheated.

We had an extremely pleasant experience here and Sushil has a great variety of beautiful products. He is able to explain to us the intricacies and differences of all the products and the prices are very reasonable, felt they were fair and did not consider it worth trying to bargain. Lovely shop and great owner.
