- Yogesh ToshniwalNagpur, India17 contributionsExcellentThis is the best activity in Jaisalmer. We did Jeep safari in the desert which was the best thrilling and adventure activity in rajasthan and the camel ride which is also absolute fun. In the evening there was folk dance and folk songs followed by rajasthani dinner. The whole activity takes around 5 -6 hours which is worth it.Visited January 2020Written 6 February 2020

- SmallgoatNew Delhi, India343 contributionsGreat abundance of birdlife on the dunesA 3 hr safari in the DNP was the highlight of our trip to Jaisalmer. I recommend going early, to get past the checkpost at sunrise. In March, we saw many unusual birds: the critically endangered great indian bustard, cinereous and griffon vultures, eastern imperial eagle, trumpeter finch, the isabelline and desert wheatears, black-crowned sparrow lark and the greater short-toed lark. Best of all, they were easy to spot in the wide open desert and made for some wonderful photographs against the dunes. There is very limited traffic here: most people head for the dunes for a camel safari instead, and that too later in the day. So if you are interested in wildlife, do NOT miss this!Visited March 2020Written 11 March 2020

Thar DNP
The Desert National Park in Thar desert of Rajasthan has two thematic attractions. One, the enchanting sand dunes. Two, the desert wildlife. Plenty of the antelope family, not too many but visible-with-effort foxes, and the birds. The majestic of all being the Great Indian Bustard. My trip in Feb 2023 was for birding as I have had enough of the dunes previously. The Bustard was sighted and photographed first followed by some other birds on a two-day safari.
Here’s a list of the birds captured on camera: The Great Indian Bustard, Yellow-eyed Pigeon, Cinereous Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Long-legged Buzzard, Tawny Eagle, Spiny-tailed Lizard (the docile vegetarian reptile), Crested Lark, Indian Courser, and Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse.

While we enjoyed the jeep ride and a bit less the camel ride, it seems that there are too many tourists coming there, especially during the Desert Festival and you have a feeling that it will destroy the natural beauty of the dunes.

Unless you have not seen Rajashtani folk dances and enjoy bonfire and spicy food it is preferable to stay in Jaisalmer and go for dessert safari in the afternoon it takes an hour from Jaisalmer so try to leave by 4 pm so that the dessert safari starts at 5 pm unless you want to see the ghost village on the way then leave at 3 pm I travelled in the cab of MR Dalpat Singh mobile +91 97840 15328 gem of a person charged me 1200 for the return journey and arranged a jeep at Rs 1000 for the safari the jeep left us on the sand dunes and came to pick up when we wanted the cab is parked outside a camp you can use the toilet and if you wish can have tea and pakora and watch folk dances for extra cost and return to Jaisalmer you can give my Refrence to MR Dalpat Singh he will pick you up or drop you at the airport in a swift desire for Rs 600 one way I spent 9 days in Jaisalmer if you wish to ask about any other attraction you can feel free to ask me my full name is Rajinder narang

Is there any entry point for the Park? How is the safari conducted? Can it be booked from Jaisalmer office or online? Is it a regular safari like in other sanctuary or just a stroll in the desert while camping?
