About
We are a family business, started in 1984, originated from a village in the desert. We organize safaris deep in the desert, from half day to 21 days, out of the beaten paths. We own 28 (healthy) camels, all our guides speak English fluently and will cook fresh Indian food on the spot for you. Also, as we care for our environment, we always make sure to bring back the trash we produce with us. Finally, once back from your excursion, we'll arrange a hot shower for you!

Excellent two day camel camping trip (8.30am to 4.30pm next day). Very well organised, secluded route and camping spot with excellent food and even the option to buy a sneaky beer from the desert shop. Hotel pickup, bag storage and the option of a hot shower all included for 1,300ind per day. Our guide Salem was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and was a pleasure to while the evening away chatting to (speaking excellent english). Camped out under the stars in the dunes keeping very snug despite the cold. Had the option to steer the camels if you got more confident or quit early and head home if you weren’t enjoying it.

If you are expecting perfect wilderness throughout the trip, you will not find it as you will certainly see and hear evidence of civilisation (wind farms and occasional noise from weddings) but this is par for the course and to be expected as all the desert round jmere is like this (in particular, note sound travels for miles in the desert). To be clear, you will spend a lot of time in glorious quiet riding through the dunes (see photos).

Would be good if the website included more info (prices, pics, more detailed itinerary) but the owner was great at explaining this all to us in person. Everyone in this company clearly cares about its success and this shines through in every detail; excellent experience all round.

I cannot recommend this tour more highly enough. I booked this tour before arriving in India - Kamal offered us excellent service by including airport pickup, showers, a sunrise breakfast and transportation in our package at a very affordable and vale for money cost. We did a one night stay in the desert which included a few hours on well kept camels, a visit to some local villages and a sleep under the stars. Our camel drivers Sulime, Lukhiya and Paurya were fantastic and kept us feeling safe in the desert and on the camel. We were able to sleep under the stars and were given bedding to keep warm the entire night. All meals were included and were delicious - freshly cooked in front of us. It was absolutely seamless and will remain a highlight of my trip to India. An absolute must do.

A friend and I opted for the two night camel safari, which was well worth it. We got to experience desert dotted with shrubs, amazing dunes and fantastic cooking and help from our guide Sakhi- not to mention the camels themselves, which were given ample time to roam independently at rest times. Visiting a local desert village was for us a new experience, and hugely interesting. Overall, the Safari itself was impeccable, the organisation via Kamal was simple and easy and the pricing was affordable- highly recommend!

Great tour, good value! Our camel driver Sakhim did a good job showing us his home village and giving us an experience that gives us a hint on how village life in the desert feels like. It was great riding on a camel for the first time. Sakhim let the camels walk sometimes a little faster on our request which was very exciting! The food was great and it was nice to see it being prepared in front of us. Learns us a little about bread making :). A night under the stars is simply breathtaking! We can really recommend Thar Desert Tours. I think its better value then booking with an hotel, because TDT is really specialised in organising tours.

After arranging via WhatsApp for a 1 day/1 night tour, Mr Kamal picked us up from the train station at 6am, got a rickshaw for us and gave us chai in his office while explaining more about the tour which started at 14:30 that day. We then went to hotel Swastica around the corner which was a nice little hotel to sleep and get refreshed before the tour!

At 14:30 we met with Mr Kamal and got in a jeep which drove us into the desert, where we met our guides and camels, which we then rode for over an hour past some villages and then further into the desert. The camels seemed healthy which is always good. The spot in the desert we stopped at was really nice, and we watched the sun go down while our food was prepared by the guys. The food was some of the nicest I had in India, proper home made traditional and non-spicy food if you don’t want.

The guides then made a fire for us as we sat around and relaxed, until it was time to get under our big blankets on the desert floor and stare up at the night sky. The guides sleep near-by but out of sight and we slept by the fire, and wow you could see so many stars!

Next day we got up at sunrise, got some nice breakfast and headed back by camal and jeep to Jaisalmer. The tour and all staff, food, animals were great! Highly recommended!

We are a French couple of 26-28 years old and we chose the 1-day camel tour in the desert with this agency, we recommend it! Kamal came to pick us up at the bus station and took us to its agency to drop our big bags. After he explained us the program, we left around 2pm for a 45min jeep ride to go close to the desert and meet Salim & his camels. We started a 1h30-2h camel ride to reach the spot where we'll spend the night. We also stopped to take beautiful picture in the desert. You can stop on a little local village on the way if you want. Salim offered us a delicious Chai tea while we waited for the sunset. Salim installed a mattress on the sand with big blankets to be warm (quite chilly and windy when night comes in February, I recommand to have a warm jacket) then he lighted up a bondfire and started to cook very tasty Indian food with rice, vegetables and homemade chapati. We asked him to sing us a song from the desert and his voice was amazing! Next day we woke up to watch the sunrise and have breakfast. We arrived back in town around 10am. Salim was really nice and quite guide, always wanted us to eat more food and be happy :D

We had a day long adventure. It started with a pick up from our hotel and a drive to where the camels were in the desert. We are three women travellers, 2 middle aged and a young lady. We felt safe and well taken care of. The experience was better than we expected. Our guides was Luckia and Amrand. They were lovely. We rode our camels then stopped at a musicians village and walked around. Be prepared to listen to some music and give a monetary gift. 1-500 rupees??? Don’t drink or eat anything. The we continued our camel ride to a lovely shade tree where we had lunch freshly prepared on the spot by our guides and had a siesta for 3 hours. It was hot and we recommend you bring cards or a book to read. Then the camel ride continued to the dunes where we took photos and travelled some more for another 30 minutes. We then stopped at a second dune and rested for a few hours, watched the sunset and when the stars came out, we ate a delicious dinner prepared by our guides. We were drives home via jeep.
We recommend wearing long sleeved cotton shirts and pants, a sun hat and light scarf to put over your neck or hat while in the sun. The guides will provide bottled water. They keep everything very clean. We also tipped our guides at the end.

I went today with Didi to explore the surrounding of Jaisalmer. He brought me to Bara Bagh, Kuldhara, Jaseri lake and Amar Sagar Jain temple where I could enjoy a fantastic sunset all by myself. Didi was super nice, friendly and helpful to find the best spots in each place.
The business is ran by Kamal, the elder brother, and Vimal runs the hotel (Shahi Garh) that lies right at the center of the old fort!
All three are extremely nice local people and I couldn't recommend them enough! Go for it!

Our friends organized an overnight Camel Safari in the Thar desert for New Years Eve through Kamal. We had a great time having a very intimate celebration in a local setting with a small group as we wished for. I can certainly recommend Kamal, his family and the involved Camel Drivers. Everybody was Super friendly and helped with every wish that we had - truly a memorable experience - thank you!

Had the most amazing time on Thar desert tours! My sister and I booked in for a 3 day and 2 night tour, which ended up being a private tour with no extra cost. Saleem was an absolute angel! He cooked us the most delicious meals and was there to help with anything we needed. Sleeping out under the stars, tucked under our mountain of blankets was an unforgettable experience! Saleem even helped us when a sinus infection I had been battling got the better of me and I needed to return early. He made it simple and stress free and made a potentially sad ending to the tour just as much fun as the start.
Thank you saleem and Thar Desert Tours!!
P.s pick up from the hostel was so helpful and punctual!
