About
Jai Shankar Handicrafts in majestic Rajasthan showcases Thar Desert Antique Embroidery and Textiles. The embroideries in this region of Rajasthan are impressive. Traditional wedding dresses, opium bags, and dowery bags come from desert villages and are sewn together as patch work wall hangings, bed covers and many other things by local people. The owner, Shankar Khatri, has a Diploma in Culture and Tourism and a passion for arts, so he also creates custom, one-of-a-kind designs.

The young man who was touting for this place was brilliant! It’s a family business and he sold it well…apparently his Dad is in marketing and it explains the fun signs that drew me into the place. So I ended buying a little something just because the young guy was so great. He has a big future in sales, well done!

Absolutely incredible experience buying clothes here. We wanted to get some classic India threads for our backpacking trip across India and the owner and staff here were so amazing helping us out trying lots of clothes very relaxed and brought us chai and a samosa. They then helped us later that evening stylize our Rickshaw with some curtains. Highly recommend!

I'm sure his wall hangings are good price, but I visited shankar for camel safari clothes in the evening and he sold me fake synthetic material costing me more than I would pay in England. I asked him if he could advise me best possible protection from the desert for three days and he sold me cheap material quickly. white yes, and covered my body but was hot to wear and let the light in. I could see my skin through the material so I knew then this is not cotton. He had no understanding how important it is for white tourists to have protection from the sun. It was not open on the day I left to tell him, not to sell this kind of material to tourists on camel safari as I was sick from the sun for 2 days after. Bad experience, poor salesman, cannot trust him. Hopefully he sees this as he asked me to review his shop after I got ripped off.

If you are just visiting Jaisalmer, then for sure it is a good address to buy textile. But if you have the occasion to stay longer, actually you will find much more choice in Delhi.

We went to this shop with my friend to adjust dresses (tailor) and we stayed there 3 hours discussing with good chai tea. All the products are really nice and different from all other shops in town.
The adjustments were perfect.
A must go in Jaisalmer !

I was hiding from the sun the whole afternoon and finally decided to go to meet a friend who spent 3 hours in a single shop! I was scared at first, but really got into the charm of the owner who invited us for dinner. He really is what selling should be : customized and perfect service! Take care, thanks for your time!
