I recently returned to Jaisalmer after two years and decided to visit Ali Baba’s Boutique again because I had bought a camel wool shawl on my last visit and absolutely love it. This time I wanted to buy a couple more for presents as well as treat myself to a camel wool blanket. Camel wool is as soft as cashmere in my opinion. This time I also fell in love with bamboo shawls, very silky and lustrous.
However the best part of the experience is to sit and chat to Ali Baba, who is very laid back and enjoys chatting about all kinds of things while offering delicious chai. He speaks several Languages and very much enjoys talking to visitors whether you buy anything or not. Absolutely no hard sell which is very refreshing and makes for a relaxing visit.

On my third return this year to my favourite city Jaisalmer, I had to visit my favourite shop again of course, Ali Baba’s Boutique. Always a warm welcome and a chat and a cup of chai provided by Ali Baba. Apart from picking up some bargains, I love watching other people shopping and am always amazed at some of the beautiful and surprising items materialising from bags and shelves because not everything is visible. A real Aladdin’s cave.

Ali Baba Boutique is a spectacular find, tucked amid the bustle of the busy market. We stopped in search of a single scarf, and walked away with a full bag - not because we were up-sold, but because Ali Baba's wares are that good.

Ali Baba began showing us different materials, and as the conversation went on, he sent for masala chai tea for all of us. After selecting a pattern, he walked us through how to tie turbans, half-turbans, and scarves of various regions. After making our purchases, he sent us away with two more scarves as a gift.

Ali Baba recently began operating a home stay in Jaisalmer as well. If his ability as a host is anywhere near his attentiveness with his customers, it is worth checking out.

Ali Baba Boutique is a gem. We popped in to get some scarves for a camel safari later that day and what unfolded was a friendly, informative and lovely interaction with the owner who offered us hot chai tea while we perused his scarves. Highly recommend!

One of my favourite things to do in Jaisalmer is popping into Ali Baba’s Boutique in Sadar Bazaar for a friendly chat on a wide range of topics and a delicious chai. Ali is always welcoming, he is humorous and enjoys meeting new people and luckily speaks several languages. Most importantly, he never pressures you into buying anything.
But I always discover something new, this time a beautiful two-toned bamboo shawl, very silky. I also treated myself to the softest camel wool blanket, which was perfect for my flight back home. There are so many different types of shawls in Ali’s shop, pure silk, silk/wool etc. as well as clothing very suitable to take home as presents.
