Bedse Caves : Worth visit
Jan 2021
Bedse Caves : Visit in Rainy season will be great.

Bedse caves are located @ 55 km from Pune. Take diversion from Kamshet on old Pune Mumbai Highway. It is national heritage sight, rock cut by buddhist and may from 1BCE.

Huge rock has two caves Stupa and Viahar. Meditation center as well residence. It is typical chaitya stupa and another caves which has baracks in half circle.

One has to climb @ 450steps to get there and enjoy panoramic view and as usual see the fresh water small pond on top of the the hill. It would eb too good, green and enjoyable in rainy season.

Worth visiting.

Buddhist Caves near Pawana Lake
Sep 2018 • Family
Buddhist Caves near Pawana Lake. Road to the caves is really narrow with hardly space for even one 4 wheeler. Little space for parking and the climb to the caves will be strenous if its hot and sunny.

Adventurous trek on the steep steps
Sep 2018 • Solo
I had visited this place on public transport from pune.I boarded the lonavla local train at 10 am and reached Kamshet at 11 am.From there i boarded shared jeep to Bedse village cross by paying 15rs.From there we need to walk for 2.5 kms to reach the caves.It is very hot in pune and i could manage to reach the caves by 11.45.There are 2 caves which are worth visiting.In the first cave we can see a buddist stupa and second one looks like a sleeping hall for buddist monks.

Unexplored, less crowded spot
Oct 2018 • Couples
If you are in Talegaon which is just ahead of lonavala then you can make a visit here if you want to do a small hike.
There are close to 400 steps here which is suggested to be hiked during monsoon and winter to enjoy the greenery.

Easy hike of 400 steps
Sep 2018 • Couples
Close to 400 steps of easy hike, this is a Buddhist rock-cut monument, the history of which can be traced back to 1st century BCE. Bedse Caves are less known when compared to Karla and BhajaCaves, so you won’t find overcrowding of tourists here and can peacefully enjoy the spectacular views this place has to offer. The best time to visit Bedse Caves is during monsoon when you get lush green views of the hills.

easy trek but small place
Jul 2018 • Friends
I went to bedse caves on weekend before going to lohgad fort, the place is amazing but very small. It is hardly a 20 minutes stop. I will suggest to go here here early so that you can continue the trek to lohgad. The place has beutiful buddist architecture. ASI charges 20rs per person per visit.

A good place to visit place in pune
Oct 2017 • Friends
The caves is located on top of a hill range. The roads to the caves is good. The greenery is so good that you can send some time in your way to the hills. Mind becomes calm. The caves are on top and u have to climb up the hill. Stairs are provided. Not advisable for small kids and older people since there is steep climb. The caves are very nicely carved. You can experience the coolness inside . Sit silently inside the cave and feel the positive energy.

Karla Bhaja & Bedse (A Traingle Of Caves Near Kamshet / Malavli)
Feb 2018 • Friends
Karla & Bhaja are well known caves & Bedse a little known.
Bedse cave does provide more scenic picturesque views than Karla or Bhaja.

The helpful tips for this trip are;

Best time to visit;

a) During early winter season, clear sky will provide the most scenic & picturesque view all around

b) During rainy season, clear sky will provide scenic & picturesque green view all around in addition to eye & ear pleasing waterfalls along the trek route

c) During summer season, the early morning clear sky before 8 am will provide the views

1) Timings - 7.30 am till evening 5.30 pm
Government staff on duty there, taking care to maintain the cave premises very neat & clean.

2. Parking fees - Rs 20 for car & Rs. 10 for bike

3. Time needed to climb up 300 to 400 steps - 15 minutes normal walk, 25 minutes leisure walk

4. Food / drinks at foothill / parking area

a) Small restaurant prepares veg & non veg food, only upon placing the food order

b) Butter milk at Rs 10 per glass

5) The most important thing, distance & route from Pune;

i) Pune to Bedse cave - 55 km
Good thing is that the road condition is very good compared to route from Chandni Chowk to Kolvan to Tikona to Bedse cave.

ii) Vishrantwadi, Pune to Shivaji Chowk Junction Before Kamshet - 47 km
At this junction, take left turn for the road that goes to Bedse caves, Pavna dam, Lohgadh fort, Tikona fort etc
Tip: Ask for Shivaji chowk or road to Pavna dam instead of heading to Kamshet, Malavli & Lonvala.

iii) Shivaji Chowk to Bedse cave T off junction - 7 km
Take right turn for the road to Bedse caves

iv) Bedse cave T off junction to Bedse caves foothills - 1 km
Last some road portion is a graded road.

6) On the caves
Wikipedia & many website on google search engine does provide a very good information on this caves so please read those if interested.
There are 2 main big caves apart from other few small caves.
30 minutes more than enough to visit the caves on top.

I visited yesterday, have taken plenty of photos of;
Parking area
Small Restaurant at parking area
Trek route & it's steps
Caves
Views in front of the cave
I have tagged photos appropriately for better to provide better understanding
It will give you a feel of this place in current summer season that is peaking up

Best options for planning your half day & one day trip covering Bedse caves;

A) Half day trip
Caves trip; Plan for Karla, Bhaja & Bedse

B) One day trip
Bedse caves, Pavna Dam, Prati Pandharpur temple, Lohgadh fort
This is the ultimate best picnic plan

C) One day trip
Bedse caves, Tikona fort, Shri Satya Sai Pandurang Shetra Temple plus Chinmaya Vibhooti Temple of Ganpati & Hanuman at Hadshi,
This is the second best picnic plan.

Hope this information will provide you to plan your trip in best way.
All the best.
