The Tribal Cultural Museum (TCM) is a good example of how with allocation of public resources and effort an ethnic and specialised museum such as this could be visualised,set-up and maintained thereafter.
Small but well arranged the TCM is located on Queen’s Road at the end of Sadhu Vaswani bridge with an ample plot of its own with free parking. The admission fee is negligible . There is an adjacent Institute where research on tribals is carried out.
Instead of dusty artefacts and wall hangings the displays are tastefully arranged and presented. The visitor can see the tribal way of life, daily routines, kitchen implements and cultural items such as masks, music etc and with dioramas and models in papier mache which can be viewed at close quarters.
Particular attention has been givenreat the to be tribes of Western Maharashtra
and Gujarat Border eg. Warli tribe best know for their paintings depicting stick-like figures.
Treat the visit to the TCM as a picnic outing with the family( 1-2 hours)
and you will come away both educated and energized.

If you visit on a weekday afternoon, there is a good chance that you will have to look for the guy selling tickets, who will then turn on the lights for you. But the exhibits are well organised and depict the art, crafts, jewelry and other artifacts of the different tribes in Maharashtra. Warli paintings deserve a special mention
