Visiting Khajurao group of temples was an awesome experience. The architecture of the temples is just amazing. The group of temples are maintained very well with a lot of greenery around. We spent a beautiful morning exploring and admiring the creativity and beautiful carvings depicting everyday activities of people of those days. Our guide Mr Siya Saran Shukla (+91 97555 05508) explained in detail the history of those temples and with his explanation of the interpretation of stone carvings on temples we were able to truly appreciate the beautiful stone carvings. He enthusiastically kept us engaged with his wealth of knowledge as he took us to various temples.
We had a beautiful experience and highly recommend visiting Khajuraho.

Today I want to review my experience in Khajuraho. It’s an offbeat place for many but I must say this is a beautiful city with old temples divided into western eastern and southern temples main one being western temples. Hiring a guide is most important. I dashed into a very good driver named Salim who was with us for all the 5 days of our journey starting from picking up to dropping us to airport and we also covered Raneh, pandav falls, Panna national park, orcha and dubeli. So make sure you also ask the driver to arrange a guide who is a must in Khajuraho temples to explain the details in the carvings.
Guide that we got was Shyam Lal. His presence of mind and interest to do his work at his best is what I loved about. He is just amazing. Also we took a very experienced photographer Nizamuddin who clicks photos till the last minute. Omg. I had a great time at Khajuraho. Thanks to these 3 trio. Driver guide and photographer. Mentioning the mobile numbers as well below. So you can call them directly.

In Khajuraho the most interesting temples are those of the west group, all decorated externally with countless relief sculptures. The scenes of everyday life are represented and undoubtedly those that attract the most attention and intrigue, despite being only 10% of the total, are the erotic ones probably related to the practices of tantra and kamasutra, which originate in India. All worked very carefully and still well preserved. The site then is very quiet and surrounded by well maintained gardens.

Visiting the Khajuraho temples is a profound experience for anyone interested in Hindu culture and ancient architecture. These temples, famous for their intricate erotic sculptures, showcase the rich spiritual and cultural tapestry of 9th-century India. Their sophisticated design and advanced engineering are a testament to the Chandela dynasty's artistic achievements.

However, it's also important to acknowledge the impact of history on these sacred sites. During the medieval period, Muslim rulers, who were often opposed to the temple's iconography, inflicted significant damage and defacement. Many sculptures were vandalized or destroyed, reflecting the turbulent history these temples have witnessed.

Despite this, the Khajuraho temples stand resilient, offering valuable insights into ancient Hindu beliefs and the artistry of their creators. A visit here not only reveals the temples' original grandeur but also the enduring spirit of cultural heritage amidst historical adversity. Highly recommended for those seeking to understand the depth and resilience of Hindu culture.

Khajuraho is a splendid site, unmissable, if you are reading this review it means that you are considering visiting it, I tell you that it is worth your visit. It's a little off the beaten track in India but it's easy to reach even independently, I'll give you some advice. Afternoon flight from Delhi T1 with Spicejet then taxi 400INR to one of the 4/5 good hotels there are. Next morning outside the hotel there are always tuktuks waiting to take you to the main site (Western temples) Entrance 600 INR. Immersed in a very clean green area, you will be amazed by such beauty. In the evening aperitif at the Raja café which is in front of the temples, around 8.00 pm they are illuminated and it is another beautiful sight. Morning after, tuktuk ride to visit individual temples scattered throughout the surrounding countryside. No entry ticket yesterday. Afternoon/evening flight back to Delhi or continue to Varanasi.

Amazing place. Temples are so intricately carved and most are in good condition given their age. Some very “interesting” scenes from the Kama sutra that may need explaining to the children. Very hot but very worth it.

Full of beautiful temples with historical significance. All temples within 4-5 km radius from city. Mostly from 10th-12th century. Generally in good condition. Escaped Moghul vandalism because they are deep in forest area. Spend as much time as possible on West group of temples. Not much in Eastern and Southern group. Sunset at Shiva temple is a spectacular sight to see fading sunlight illuminating Shiva idol from feet upto face. Do not miss Raneh waterfall. Two clear days good enough.

Primarily known for the erotic carvings Khajuraho has much more to offer. The temples are exquisite and the carvings are works of art. Khajuraho has much more to offer but a good guide is essential. Mr. Dinesh Raikwar, +918085105484, is highly recommended. He also has his own air conditioned van, well maintained and comfortable, which is an added advantage.
There are a number of attractions in the vicinity about which we did not know. It’s important therefore to plan your trip in consultation with locals.

Anurag is an excellent choice for guide in Khajuraho.  He toured us for 3 days.

His prices are reasonable.  He communicates well by WhatsApp. His English is very good.  He went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect.  He was punctual and always a few minutes early. Unlike many Indian guides, he did not push shopping. I highly recommend Anurag for your time in Khajuraho. His WhatsApp number is

Excellent Architecture. Well preserved.

There are three sets of Temples. The Western one - the biggest and best, best maintained as well. Has an entrance fee. Has good parking, guides available.

Takes about 2-3 hours max to see almost all of them. Always take a guide to appreciate the history, architecture etc. Except Matangeshwara temple which is a functional and living temple, none of the other temples in Western temples group is a living temple. But, very interesting and important piece of Sanathan architecture.

The Easter group of temples is not maintained that well, except the Parsvanath Temple (Jain temple).

The southern group of temples of which Dulhadev Temple is the main one and Chaturbhuj Temple is also very good.

Overall, a must visit place once in a lifetime.
