I visited this location in 2023. While the natural surroundings were pleasant, I had a negative experience with the local community. Similar to situations in India, there were instances of harassment towards women from Europe or the USA. The area had frequent incidents of muggings, and local touts were known to deceive visitors. Unfortunately, there were uncomfortable encounters where local individuals behaved inappropriately towards women. Based on my experience, I do not recommend visiting this place and advise staying away.

Lakshadweep, India is one of the most beautiful beaches i have ever seen. The place is so amazing. Light blue waters, wonderful people and great beach activities.
We spent only a day there as we were part of the Cordelia Cruise . The only drawback is there is no good place to stay and relax on the beach. Due to the heat many people did not enjoy. But as long as you are in the beach water, you can have a lot of fun.

I visited d Lakshadweep Islands recently. Amazing experience 'n a beautiful place. People r very friendly 'n helpful. Cleanest beaches 'n waters I've seen in India. Safest waters for children, amazing variety of marine life - snorkeling/diving was gr8 fun! Very gud food all thru' d stay. Wish they wud publicise d place more appropriately & post more tourist friendly information on d net; but then I guess d demise of these islands wud b much faster. Yes the ecology is extremely fragile & I'm afraid even wid d present state our nxt generation might not get 2 experience these coral islands - they r actually fast eroding/drowning. I went by air 2 Agatti, stayd a night at a Home Stay & caught a ferry for Kadmat d nxt day. Stayed at Kadmat Resort for 5 days & bak 2 Agatti by a boat 2 take d flight bak 2 Kochi.
Air Option. Air India & Kingfisher operate flights from Kochi to Agatti, which is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Agatti onwards you can take a High Speed Catamaran(HSC) (subject to schedule) or a country boat to either Kadmat or Kavaratti, the only places other than Agatti presently open to tourists.
Sea Option. All places in Lakshadweep are linked to Kochi by passenger ships as per a six monthly schedule. Between islands u'll have to use HSC or country boats. Inter island connectivity is subject 2 d weekly schedule of HSCs, which is not very consistent. I had 2 take a country boat for my return journey from Kadmat 2 Agatti - very basic boats with no loos or shade. Started on d six hr journey at 2 AM to reach Agatti before the full fury of the sun was unleashed. Interesting adventure though, 'n d resort people had made us very comfy with lots of mattresses 'n cushions plus packd hamper B'fast, so we cud actually sleep on the high seas under the open sky.
Sea Based Option. You can also go around based on a ship. The cruise starts from Kochi & takes u around two-three islands before dropping u bak at Kochi. Modus Operandi is simple - they sail between islands at night & drop anchor at un of the destinations in d morning. U go around the island in d day, hav fun & aboard the ship by eve, weigh anchor 'n off 2 another destination by ni. Accomodation on d ships is very basic. I'd sent my parents on a cruise bout a decade bak, they had fun though were a tad uncomfortable.
Islands & Accn. Bangaram, Agatti, Minicoy, Kadmat & Kavaratti r the islands promoted for tourism. Resorts r not presently functional at Bangaram, Kavaratti & Minicoy due 2 some litigations. So if u want 2 stay on an isle, Kadmat 'n Agatti r d only options. Kadmat resort is run by a Sarkari Society (SPORT - d link refers). Agatti has a private resort (Sea Shells Resort) as well as a resort run by SPORT. Dak Bungalows r locatd at Bangaram, Kavaratti & Minicoy - cud b tried thru Sarkari channels. SPORT is doing a wonderful job of running d resorts though. All water sports facilities r avail at their resorts- snorkeling, diving, kayaking, water surfing etc. Bangaram I'm told was d best though - sadly its not functional. Kadmat is also damn gud.
Bookings. Confirmed bookings r advisable before u depart, very limited accn on all isles. Plus u need a permit 2 board the aircraft or ship at Kochi. Advisable 2 go thru' an agent or travel agencies - I'd done my accn bookings thru' Mint Valley Tourism & booked d air tickets directly.

The nodal agency is a fraud. They grossly overcharged us for a room in a lodge in what looked like a slum. They further gave us NO information about where we were actually going to be put up. The Island itself is very political in that there are comfortable lodgings which are made available only to Govt. officials and their friends - tourists get a really bad deal here. It's safer and cheaper to choose Andamans over Lakshadweep.

Only a place in the world offer you both peace and adventure. Agatti is one of those. An absolutely untouched unexplored location. Sea is clean and serene. Views are spectacular. Its a short air travel from kochi and only airindia flights are available. There are lot of water activities that you can do few options are snorkeling, scuba, water scooter etc. One should try local sea food.

I visited Agatti island by air on 19th December,2012 together with my wife and two daughters. Though resorts are closed since long over court dispute with local administration, I managed Homestays through tour operator, Mr. Abdul Salam, website: www.lakholidays.com, contact No.09495113798. We stayed two nights at Agatti and came back by air on 21st December,2012. On Day 1, we visited Kalpitty Island and did snorkelling, swimming and collected dead corals. At Agatti we did glass-boat riding and my children were enjoyed to view the under water living corals, fauna and different colourful fishes. Agatti is a good spot for scuba diving also. The island is beautiful and worth visiting.
People of Agatti are simple, courteous.
On day 2, we visited Bangaram Island by boat. It is a beautiful Island We ever visited. good spot for fishing, snorkelling, and scuba diving. Once there was a Casino at Bangaram Island which was frequently visited foreign tourist and now closed. Govt Guest House is still running.

Agatti Island, Lakshadweep – The Coral Paradise of India!!!
At times life surprises you with beautiful blessings. it was one of those rare opportunities to be part of a wonderful team on a trip to #Lakshadweep(LD). Lakshadweep been on the top of my #travel list for years, had no idea that it would materialize this soon. Lakshadweep is well known among tourists for its pristine white sand #beaches and calm lagoons.
This spectacular island destination, smallest Union Territory, located in the Kerala coast of Arabian Sea has around 36+ Islands. Out of the 36 islands, only ten are inhabited and they are #Andrott, #Amini, #Agatti, #Bitra, #Chetlat, #Kadmat,#Kalpeni, #Kavaratti, #Kiltan and #Minicoy. Kavaratti is the capital of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
Lakshadweep though is part of India, a Union Territory, travel to this coral paradise calls for a lot of pre approvals and formalities. A permit issued by the Administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep is required to visit the islands. Indian citizens can get visiting permit or work permit for Lakshadweep if you have a sponsor from the island. Getting permit is effortful in our experience, also one need to get a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) before applying for permit. Other options is to go for #LDCL's package which is seamless.
Details are available at: Lakshadweep tourism website
It was Himalayan task and really a pain to get all the processes through, within so many constraints. Biggest challenge is the 15 day window they have kept for the permit validity. You will have to complete the trip within this period. To top it, tickets can be booked only 15 days in advance if planning by vessel, making it impossible to get the permit and tickers and complete your trip within the permit validity. Travelling by vessel is much cheaper than by air. This really small window made it chaotic, & we had to change our tickets multiple times, and finally had to opt for flight options. There is one flight from Bangalore - Kochi - LD operated by Air india.
The only airport in Lakshadweep is located at Agatti, probably it is the smallest airport in India. Air India operates an ATR 72-600 from Kochi (COK) to Agatti (AGX) on weekdays, except Sundays. Regular ship services are available to the island from Kochi as well as Beypore near Kozhikode.
Thanks to Shameer Ali / Reneesh Rahman for taking all the pain in following up with LD offices in Kochi for all the permits and approvals.
After all the hurdles we have finally obtained our long awaited permit to visit Kavaratti. Though it was quite depressing that we could obtain only Kavaratti permit, still were excited about the fact that “yes finally we made it”. 4 of us started 2 days earlier on from the rest of the members. I was flying from Bangalore and my fellow mates boarded from Kochi, luckily on the same flight we had a VIP onboard and I was fortunate to have a seat next to him, with his help we obtained permission to stay at Agatti and Visit another Island as well. Getting permission at Agatti It was like a dream come true. As per officials @ the Airport, unless you have a permit you should leave Agatti island within 4 hours from landing. Agatti is the most beautiful inhabited islands in the Lakshadweep. Air strip is at the eastern side which is the tapered part of the island, with broad side on the Western side holding lighthouse and Vessel Berths. Over all length of the island is not more than 4-5kms, and a maximum width of around 1-2kms at the western side. Eastern side of the island is not more than 500 meters wide.
With the additional permit received we obtained stay at one of the homes @ Agatti. We had a 3 day 2 nights stay at Agatti before heading to Kavaratti. Second day we visited Bangaram and had a glimpse of Thinnakkare Islands.
Most of the stay options @ Agatti were closed, what we learnt is the administration is not promoting tourism at Agatti. Agattti acts as a transit island for Kavaratti or Bangaram/thinnakkare, and of course the only airport in the island. Most of the island Tourism is around Bangaram/Thinnakkare, a beautiful island at around 1-2 hours distance by boat. You may opt for helicopter services as well, which will cost ~INR1800 per seat. Bangaram/Thinnakkare is literally most secluded and cleanest beaches in the Island community. Travel and Tourism to this island is managed by #SPORTS - official tourism department of Lakshadweep.
People of Lakshadweep, specially Agatti are extremely kind, helpful, and honest. They were always there to help/support us without any expectations. To be frank it was definitely a cultural shock when you come across the way police and other officials engage with you. I’m sure this is the only place in India you will find police officers and administration at peace with people and they are really at your service. Reportedly there are no crimes in Agatti, no theft, nothing, islanders live in harmony. You can leave your valuables anywhere you want and no one will even touch it, something you cant even imagine anywhere else in the world. To our surprise there wasn’t any keys for the homestay, upon insisting they arranged one specially for us.
Fishing and fishery resources being the major source of revenue next to Coconut for the islanders. Tuna is the most common fish in the coast. #Masmin (colloquially known as mas) is the most important fish product of Lakshadweep. It is a hard dried and smoked product from Tuna meat.
Government supports people of Lakshadweep with all basic supplies. Everything needs to be shipped from the main / Nearby shore which is Kochin. Fruits and vegetables are generally costly, however if you are a seafood lover, this place you will never forget. Though the prominent fish you will find at eateries is Tuna, you can engage with local people and go for fishing other varieties as well. Main source of drinking water is the central Desalination plant located at the North side. View from the top of Desalination plant is Breathtaking. There are a variety of colour fishes you can find around the costal side of the Desalination plant, colour fishes are not edible always and Lakshadweep people do not consume such fishes. Lakshadweep people generally prefers Squid, Tuna over the colour fishes.
This island offers a variety of snorkeling / scuba diving options, crystal clear and clean water its definitely divers paradise. All islands are surrounded by #lagoons which are fenced by #coral reefs all around. These reefs provide a natural shelter from rough seas, besides adding beauty to the islands. Dead corals are seen scattered throughout the beach.
Main mode of commute in the island is either walk or you can call an auto. we have covered every part of the island by walking through the sandy beaches. Well it was not so easy to walk through sandy beaches for hours, but the tranquilizing beaches will drive you more. View of the beaches, sunset @ the Lagoons restaurant, West Berth is definitely something you should not miss.
Lakshadweep trip gave us a lot of lovely island friends, best part is that they are in touch
with us on a regular basis. It was one of a life time experience and thanks for all the help and support by our island friends specially Muthu Agatti, Anwar Ikka, MyShah Ikea, Salim Ikka, Salam Ikka and their great leader MP Faizal Muhammad Muthon
Avoid monsoon season while planning a trip to Lakshadweep as reaching there by ship is difficult during monsoon. The best time to visit Lakshadweep is from October to mid May. We have visited Agatti and Kavaratti during our 9 days trip in Feb 2017. blessing in disguise, due to some goof up in the flight bookings, we got another extended stay at Agatti while returning.
Do not carry alcoholic drinks, its prohibited in the islands. Try to avoid short and exposed outfits in beaches, do respect their cultural sentiments.
Places of attraction: @ Agatti
#Bangaram Island, #Thinnakkare Island, #Kalpitti Island, South Beach, #DesalinationPlant, Anthropological Museum, #LagoonBeach, Westside Berth, #Lighthouse.
Things to do:
Islands are known for water sports like #snorkeling, #scuba #diving, #kayaking, glass boating etc. Scuba diving in crystal clear water around coral reefs is breathtaking. Many types of fishes and live corals are seen in glass boat ride. No need to mention about Tuna as it is a part of every island cuisine.
In a nutshell, if you are looking for a clean secluded island beach amidst abundance of
nature, Agatti, Lakshadweep is the perfect destination for you.

My rating is not for the place but for the things you need to arrange & be ready to face.I travelled in mid dec 2015
So to start with you need permit to enter each island. So one cannot enter kavaratti with agatti permit or minicoy with kadmat permit. So be ready to get police clearance from your area. This is a new introduction and time consuming. U may have to pay 300rs for this.Once u get the police clearance certificate u need to get the permit from cochin. The govt dept which issues permit will not answer your calls(as u know it is govt). So u need to spend some money & time for permit. Without permit u cannot board the flight.Once u reach agatti(only airstrip) u will be picked up by ur homestay guy.
Agatti is a very calm & beautiful place.U cannot do anything other than relaxing in the beach. So book ur stay for not more than 2 days.U may visit Bangaram on one of the days. If u have not booked the tour from sports council u cannot go for snorkelling, scuba diving as it is all managed by sports council & the stay is bit expensive than the normal home stays.U still have 1 place in agatti for snorkelling but a bit expensive and not so great.
U do not get all types of fishes. I was served only tuna, chicken & mutton. Also i did not find any marine life in the sea.
So to conclude it is nothing but a failure by the govt in improving/organising tourism.
So few things before u plan ur trip.
1.U need permit to visit each island.Getting permit is a hectic task.
2.Other than relaxing & enjoying the nature u got nothing to do there.
3. Stay is quite expensive.
4. U need to pay for each and everything.nothing is free.
5. Lakshadeep tourism is not well organised and hence plan a trip with stay not more than 2 days.
6. Ship package is still recommended than by air.

Search for SPORTS, Lakshadweep on google. First link shows official website of lakshadweep tourism. Go to authorized travel agents from left panel. I had done my entire trip booking excluding flight from M/s Eezy 2 travel.
