Situated in the southern part of Varkala. No entry fee. Has a small lush garden. The whole place is well maintained. There is a placard outside to know a brief history of the fort.

Has historical value and it is well maintained. A quick stop over if you are traveling from Varkala to Trivandrum.

Anchuthengu fort is of great historical importance and it is well maintained. Even though there is nothing special inside the fort, you can take some good pictures, especially from the top.
It is located in the way from Perumathura muthalappozhi to Varkala. So once you are visiting these places, just see the fort also.
There is lighthouse nearby, but visitors are allowed only from 3pm to 5pm.

The whole five coconut area is clean, calm and quite gorgeous. The garden and lighthouse pristine and one could easily imagine it back in the days of colonial rule

Anchuthengu fort is a calm place to choose on evenings. The place is very close to my heart as the very first of trips with my boyfriend was to Anchuthengu fort. The place is calm and soothing in the evenings with the view of sea and a river from the top of a light house. The fort is simple without much expressive architectural detailing. The ambience and view is all the place got to offer.

The fort itself is nice, but not spectacular. However, combined with a visit of the close by lighthouse (opening hours 3-5 pm!) it is worth going there.

If you are passing through Varkala, this place is worth a small visit. However, it's very small and you could probably finish seeing everything in around 15 mins.

Interesting historical fort with nice garden with almond trees. Climb on the walls and walk round the battlements (no safety rail and big drop). Built by the British East India Company in the 17c and the first trading post in the Malabar region.

My paternal great grand father Francis Rozario Fernandez was an administrator with the British East India Company in Anjengo in the late 18th Century. The Sacred Heart Convent was built by Francis and my father and his siblings were born in that building. I will be visiting Anjengo next week and would like to know more about the Fort. Thank you.
