It is a 2000 year old temple of Janardhana (Vishnu).
It is also known Papanasham Temple. Local people come here for puja.

It is one of the best temples I have seen in Kerala. It is located not far from the Papanasam beach. The temple is unique in the sense that the inner part does not have any 'upadavatas'. Just the sanctum of Janardana Swamy and that is all. All upadevatas are located in the outer ring. The deity in standing pose is a 'Pitrdeva' and that is why the temple is famous and popular for annual 'bali'. The large plot is generally silent and has a pious atmosphere. A visit to this temple is really rejuvenating-both for mind and body (soul too can be added if you please) It is a must visit in Varkala.

We went at the time of an annual festival so the crowds were more than we would have liked. The temple is small and beautiful and very ancient. However, the surroundings, thanks to the crowd of visitors were full of trash. I really felt the local authorities should have taken pains to keep the surroundings clean.

Loved the energy of this temple. Different things to see in just one place. Easy to walk around. Spacious enough to walk on your own, well kept.

Located close to the southern part of the Varkala cliff. Very calm and divine. Temple opens early in the morning ( around 5.30 am if I'm not wrong) and closes by 12 pm to open again by 5 pm.

We were there in the weekend trip to Varkala and the temple is close 1 km from the papanasam beach and 10 min walk from our hotel. It is a very big temple and easily can feel the vibe once we entered inside the compound wall. It was really famous and many people over there. A place worth to visit in Varkala..

We saw the construction work last year 2019. Really nice job on the completion in 2020. Well done.
