1. Varkala Beach, also known as Papanasham Beach skirts the Arabian Sea.

2. Varkala beach is the only place in southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea.

3. The cliff stretches (North cliff + South cliff) about 2 to 3 kms and has beautiful sunset views

4. North Cliff is very lively with cafes, restaurants and shops whereas South Cliff is calm and undisturbed when compared to North Cliff. Just stroll through the north cliff road to get into the vibe.

5. Ample parking space is available. There are restaurants available near the parking area as well. You will find autos too in the stand near the paring area.

6. There are sitting areas in north cliff to view the sea from the cliff.

7. To reach the beach you have to descend the cliff. There are several step ways provided throughout the cliff. Most of them are 100+ steps of moderate climb. There are very few ways which has very less steps and plain ramp kind of roads to reach down/up. Ask the locals and they will help you out.

8. On the south cliff, you will come across the famous Janardhana swamy temple. If you are on the cliff, you can reach the temple easily but if you are at the beach and want to visit then you need to climb up the steps to reach the temple.

9. South cliff is very less crowded and undisturbed. From the beach you can view both north and south cliff in panorama style. We stayed at Seashore Beach Resort in the south cliff and they had the dining area right near the cliff overlooking the beach. We enjoyed watching the never ending waves from the cliff while dining. Such a memorable experience.

10. There are several resorts/stay at the north cliff as well.

11. To roam around, if you don't have your own vehicle, you can rent a 2/4-wheeler or take the autos.

Simply i would like to call this place as "Mini Goa". When its season especially from October to March this place is an absolute Vibe. This is a must try place to visit along with your friends & family. There are a lot of shops and restaurants in and around the cliff. Some of the restaurants i would suggest are - Cafe Italiano , Cafe Del Mar,Darjeeling Cafe & more. Most of the restaurants here provides drinks along with delicious dishes including seafood and other varieties too. Live fish selection and preparing according to our wish is also available here in some of the hotels. So do visit this place atleast once, and try to stay for a day and spend time in Varkala.Inda is a good place to stay with friends or family. Activities like parasailing, parachuting etc are also available here.

It's a concept. A slice of road, one side sea and the other shops, restaurants and that too on a cliff!! And one has to walk. No car, bikes. It's really good.

The cliff which is stretched for 2-3 kms between Varkala/Papanasam beach being in middle between south cliff and north cliff.

South cliff is more quiet where you'll find a handful of cafes/restaurants (no walk way like north though ) and hotels having private access to beach. After Varkala beach , you can either walk on beach shore or take a auto for south.

North cliff Had a lot of parking space there in the helipad including Auto stand for commute(fixed price/destination) and From here you can walk with one side having green lush cliff facing sea and on the other side are shops, hotels and restaurants, Ayurvedic massage centre.

Choose early morning hours/Day time to visit if you prefer less crowd and hassle free shopping however it becomes vibrant post Sunset with music and light. The restaurants here offer Indian , continental, Italian as well local seafood (allowing you to pick from tray available at the front) and varieties of Liquor.

I was impressed by the local population insistence in keeping the beach clean and maintaining decorum which make it safe and hygienic beach to spend time for tourists.
