What I learned at Mathatitu Yoga School went way beyond my expectations. It all asked hard work from our part too, but I’m amazed to see how many topics we could cover in one month, in such various areas as philosophy, ayurveda, anatomy, asanas, meditation and pranayama… One of the strengths of the program is that it’s delivered by a team of teachers with different approaches but that complement and feed off each other. The classes are definitely challenging but take place in a caring atmosphere, supervised by Anoop, a director with an inspiring life philosophy. I feel very grateful for being able to complete my 300h TTC there!

I did my Yoga TTC in Mathatitu and enjoyed everything about this place.
The teachers are incredible and so caring. They are passionate and so happy to share their knowledge and culture.
The location is beyond expectations as it's right above the most beautiful beach in Varkala. Perfect to cool down after Asana class.
The food is vegetarian and so tasty.
The staff is lovely and so is the manager Anoup!
I absolutely recommend this place if you wish to become a Yoga instructor!

The yoga TTC at Mathatitu was one of the best experiences of my life. It was 28 intense days, with great food in a great place, with great people!!! I feel so fortunate to choose this program! The teachers are amazing, serious and funny!!! I received more than I expected. The knowledge I absorbed changed my life. I didn’t think about teach yoga, I did the course to change my lifestyle, but after 2 weeks I’ve noticed that I could teach... it was an amazing experience give a class to my new yogi friends!!! Miss you all!!!

Gratitude to Anoop and all his team, in particular to Asanas teachers (Anil or Baba; Santos (always pushing us UP) and Sadji (sorry my spelling- the Hatha teacher from Kovalam)), they bring me back to life... no more lethargic state!!! Thanks to Pranaji and his Pranayama teachings also!!! Wonderful!!!

Love you all and hope to see you guys next year!!!

I spent 28 days here doing the yoga teacher training (hatha) and I feel so grateful for the amazing experience I had, the most incredible month of my life and It's hard to put it in to words but I will try!

Anoop is a lovely guy and very helpful, his passion for sharing yoga is a pleasure to be around. Sujee is also lovely and so helpful. The teachers were absolutely brilliant and I learnt so much from them, particularly Rich and his amazing anatomy/ adjustment classes as well as his asana classes- these have literally changed my life! The studio has a great view of the beach/ocean, which is lovely. Some of the other classes were more traditional and I learnt so much about the path of yoga, not just asana: philosophy, history, pranayama, mudras, bandhas. The course is very intense and it's complete immersion in to yoga which I loved.

The food was delicious and I really enjoyed it and there was enough variation that I never got bored. Our room was great, exactly what we needed, simple but enough space to unpack and 'make yourself at home'. My partner stayed with me but didnt do the course and he was made to feel very welcome by all. Mathatitu location couldn't be better it is right next to the steps down to the BEAUTIFUL Varkala beach (swimming on lunch break was incredible! You couldn't be closer to beach) the vibe at the Hill top is always so friendly and relaxed. The staff are amazing and I've made friends for life here. Best experience of my life, feel more connected and passionate about yoga than ever and ready to share some of my new knowledge.

My only comments for improvment are that our group size was too big (32) for my preference, however I believe that this was unusual to have it so big and we were the biggest they had ever had. I believe that 20 is usually the maximum and the group who started after and before us were significantly smaller. There was also a couple of complete beginners to yoga in my group and I think it may have been helpful for there to be some group options: beginners and intermediate.

I hope to return next year for more as it was so amazing!! Also value for money was incredible!! Thank you all at Mathatitu.

I stayed one month at Hilltop and did my 200 hours Yoga teacher training at Mathatitu. The rooms are really nice with own bathroom, the food was delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. The owner Anoop welcomed me with a smile and Sujeesh at the reception helped me with every little problem I've had straight. The yoga teacher are amazing especially the Anatomy and Adjustment class with Rich and the Asthanga class with Anil are phenomenal. As the Ashram is directly on the beach you can always go for a swim in the ocean. I can definitely say I had a really good time and education and felt like home. I will come back for sure and can highly recommend doing the TTC or just some Yoga classes at Mathatitu.

I have done TTC 200h at Mathatitu Yoga Ashram in March 2018. It was a life changing experience, beginning of a new and exciting path and the happiest days of my life. The knowledge that I gained throughout the course still unfolds within me and supports my practice and life choices. I haven't taught yet as I am still travelling India, but I am confident I will in the near future.

Mathatitu Yoga Ashram has got everything you need during the training - clean rooms (single person accomodation), healthy and tasty meals, amazing staff and yogashala with beautiful seaview where the students spend about 11 hours per day, 6 days a week. The place is run by Anoop, sweet, caring person and true yogi.

The program of the course is far beyond impressive and it covers a wide variety of yogic concepts like hilisophy, yoga sutras, teaching instruction, pranayamas, kriyas, meditation, Human anatomy, Alignment / Adjustment (both self and assisted) and also different types of yogic asana practices (iyengar, ashtanga, hatha and sivananda). The course is not for the lighthearted and requires dedication, devotion and discipline to reap the maximum benefits. The course comprised of 2 stringent asana practices 6 days a week (morning and afternoon) with an option to even take them on the remaining day off.

We were extremely lucky to have a versatile and experienced band of teachers during our training who guided us through this wonderful journey. Rich, Manoj, Sanathanan, Sunil and Anoop were more than what we hoped for, they broadened our perspective, shared their knowledge selflessly and boosted our confidence to take on new challenges.

I am also grateful for my batchmates. It was an an absolute honor to learn with fellow yogis from different parts of the world and different walks of life. We lived together, ate together, practiced together, shared our stories, sang in the night, swam in the sea and supported each other like a family in this one month and i miss every single one of them.

Lastly, I believe you cannot go wrong with the choice of "varkala" as a yogic destination for embarking on your journey. It is truly a magical place and the legend has it that "what your heart wishes while you're here will definetely come true". It worked its Magic on me...!

I recommend Mathatitu with all my heart. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I did a 200 hr course in hilltop in March to become a yoga instructer. This course was amazing. The setting , rooms and food are great. The teachers were brilliant. We got a wide variery of teachers with different styles and techniques. I really enjoyed the diversity between our teachers. There was lots of support from them, Anoop and the fellow people doing the course. I stayed for an extra week after my course just to keep practising with the teachers. If your thinking about coming here , do ! Its amazing. Take me back .

What an amazing experience!

I have just competed the 28 day, 200 hour teacher training course and it exceeded all of my expectations. The knowledge I have gained is so valuable and I am now on the 'yoga path' thanks to all of the wonderful teachers at Mathatitu. I had been practicing yoga on and off for years and went to Mathatitu for a deeper knowledge of yoga and no intention of teaching. Since doing the course I intend to do my own practice everyday, continue to read lots and lots and at some point in the next few weeks start teaching on a volunteering basis to start with. There are a variety of teachers, all extremely knowledgable and who have been studying yoga, for some of them, pretty much all of their lives. We learnt not only about the postures but the 8 limbs of yoga, the history, philosophy, meditation, mudras, doshas, anatomy, chanting and much much more.

The yoga studio is on the top floor and has a view across Varkala beach. This worked really well for me as you still felt like you were outside and not stuck in a hot room.

On this course there was a mixture of people from all different walks of life, different ages and levels of yoga. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course and we will all stay in touch.

The schedule is full on and intense but really really good and I enjoyed the challenge both physically and mentally. The teachers are inspiring and supporting and I feel so lucky to have had them.

I researched the courses for weeks before I finally booked this one. It was noticeably cheaper that other courses so I was a little dubious and there weren't many reviews. I wasn't disappointed at all. On the run up to staying at Hilltop I liaised with Anoop over email and he always replied promptly answering any questions I had. My husband was allowed to stay with me too. The food was included in the price and we paid a little extra for my husband to stay and eat.

The accommodation is basic but clean. The rooms are cleaned regularly and if you have any requests Anoop is always happy to help with everything. He often reminded us that if we had any issues or problems to let him know and he will do what he can to sort it out.

The food to start with was sattvic so very healthy and easy to digest. I felt so much better in myself after eating this food for a few days. There was a gap of about a week or so between chiefs so he organised food for us at he Tibetan kitchen next door. This food was ok, but not as healthy so I was pleased when the new chief arrived!! He was absolutely incredible, best food on the cliff 😀. Really healthy and varied, so tasty.

Overall this was such a fantastic course. I would whole heartedly recommend to anyone looking to teach or just wanting a deeper understanding of yoga for themselves. I met many people at Hill Top who had done the teacher training course in a previous month who had returned just to see friends, practice yoga at the drop in sessions twice a day and just be back in that special place for a while.......
