We visited the Kalari show only on the day of Dusshera this year. It was quite enjoyable with all the music and performances. I won't say all the performances were exceptional, there were couple of mediocre ones as well. But at the end of the show, you should have your money's worth. Special mention about the grandmaster whose every performance was a treat. We booked the tickets online, and got front row seats.

An amazing display of martial arts

Artists were good and engaged themselves with viewers
Excellent demonstration and performance of various attack and Defence moves that amazed everyone some time with joy sometimes with Fear.

Many of the viewers got a chance to volunteer during the activity
And post-completion almost everyone gets themselves clicked with Artists and performers.

Must visit place

We visited this performance on the suggestion of our hotel, Cardamom County in Thekkady. It was a full house show, with stellar performance by every artist...my teenager and young adult children were awestruck by the prowess of the artists. Well trained, interactive with audience, they awed everyone.
Walking out of the show, being greeted by a man selling mallige garlands made our day.
This is strongly recommended to travellers visiting Thekkady.

Looking for an educational cum exciting activity, then do visit the Kadathanadan center to watch the mind blowing kalaripayattu performance ( the oldest form of martial arts in the world) … my younger son has always been fascinated by this art form and was elated to know that we were going to see a live performance.. The Kadathanadan Center which has an arena surrounded by a viewing gallery. The Kalari artists were simply astounding in their feats and duels they performed. Special mention to Arti and Chiku Kadathanadan for their exemplary display of skills and prowess. The pièce de résistance was the ring of fire through which the performers jumped with absolute
dexterity and grace.. The show ended with an opportunity to get ourselves clicked with the super performers.

Next was the kathakali preformance, the traditional dance form of Kerala. Originating in the 17th century, it is an ancient art and one of the most challenging art forms as it uses extensive use of the facial muscles, movement of eyes and eyebrows to emote and convey the story. Accompanied by a narrator and a drummer, the artists came clad in their elaborate and colorful attires, masks and painted faces. The show started with ‘navarasa’ ( the 9 human emotions) and went on to depict a scene from Mahabharata. The entire was very graceful. Again a must watch.

Both kalaripayattu and Kathakali are also educational for children in knowing about the Indian heritage and it’s art forms. 5 stars to both the performances.

When in Childhood I used to watch Kathakali Performance on Doordarshan I used to try moving my eyebrows and eye balls and then in April, 2021 when I got to see the performance live and the artists getting their make up done, OMG! I can't express my feelings.

Also got to know what NAVARSA means.

Also the oldest martial art Kalari, I would love to learn during my next visit to Thekkady, Kumily, Idukki, Kerala. I love my country!.

Was in Thekaddy last month and watched both Kathakali and Kalaripayatu show, both were well performed.
Kathakali is a classical dance reciting story of Mahabharata and Kalaripayatu is considered worlds oldest martial art.
They have show in evening,to get front row seats it’s suggested to book in advance.
At the end of show they offer to get photographs with the artist with small donations,do donate whatever you can, even small amount like 50 or 100 means lot to the artist.

Kadathanadan Kalaripayattu had superb exhibition of traditional martial arts, be it spear fighting, knife or sword fighting, long jumping, fire jumping or just the athletics were super exciting to watch, each and every performer's body language, confidence and skill are worth watching.

Kathakali, the traditional art form where facial expression are the major part of this performance are worth a watch, I liked the part when facial expressions were expressed on beats of a drum, "The Mother putting sleeping Baby down" act also was a fun to watch and could relate it to the real life. Best part was when they call a person up on the stage and ask to imitate.

Over all a funfilled 2 hours.
Must watch when in Thekaddy, Kumily.
