near Kerala, India's Malappuram district, the Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is located near Vallikunnu Grama Panchayat. In the area where the Kadalundipuzha River empties into the Arabian Sea, it extends across a collection of islands. There are 200 meters or so above sea level on the Sanctuary hill.

The place is a mangrove reserve. There is a boat service through the Kadalundi river that takes is through the mangrove. The charge is Rs800 for an hour. We were 7 adults and 4 children in one boat. Many birds can be sighted even in off-season. Important to enquire high tide timings to make maximum use of the boat ride. During low tide, water recedes the area and makes it difficult to move around. The bird watching season is September to December, with peak in December. The place is only a few metres from the Kadalundi railway station.

The birds (mainly migratory ones) flocked near the roots of the mangroves in search of fish and crabs. The water was very clean and clear. I hired a paddled boat for two hours and then strolled along the banks on foot for another hour.

The estuary at Kadalundi has quite a few sand banks with mangroves. The conditions are ideal for migratory birds which land here to roost and feed. Kadalundi is reachable both by road and train. It is around 20 KMS from the district capital Kozhikode. The best way to view birds is by going by a boat. The hiring charges are reasonable and safe. The view of the estuary where the river meets the sea is awesome. Visit during early mornings or an hour before sunset.

Perfect place for a day tour,,,,went with a lot of apprehension,,,but was recieved by a guide as we approached the spot...the officer in charge warmly welcomed us and have a brief description,,, although a sunny day they gave us hats and umbrellas,,,we were taken in a local boat and the sights excited us,,,we could spot at least 10 types of birds about 5 were exotic,,,saw dishes jumping ,,the mangrove journey was delightful....then a trip in backwaters watching fishing ....could even get live crabs for a good bargain...after a 3 hour ride was back for tasty food...local produce though a bit on spicier side....we were totally impressed and kids sooper happy...not tired at all,,,if you have about 12 pole can share a boat,,,it'll just cost 100 for a person...must visit place P S green land tours is partly government run so remuneration goes to the local panchayat too...please carry ur own water bottles and don't take any plastics as the officials have to remove kilos of plastic waste each month....be an eco friendly traveller...

There were no special birds of attraction..only locally found birds are seen. Journey in the country boat for one hour costs about Rs 1000, which was dull without birds. Diffucult to access the place with -a deserted place and no proper signboards. As a whole, the journey was not worth it.

It's a nice place to visit if you want some place which is away from chaos of city, It's joining place of Kadalundi river in to Arabian Sea. Kadalundi bridge is beautiful sunset view point which faces 180° to the sea one side...and opposite side to the bird sanctuary and mangrove settlement. Calm quiet and peaceful, you can hire a boat from sanctuary office for a closer look of the birds. Boat ride in the traditional style is a must do through the sanctuary, Boat Service provides with sea food also, If anyone interested in Traditional Boat Service with Food you can contact Green Island Tourism at Kadalundi Bird Santuary, They provide safe, hygienic and joyful journey through the Kadalundi River, thier Contact Details: 9539338338, 9447192053, 9526902890
