Kottathavalam is at Kurishumala atop Murugan Hills near Vagamon and is a good picnic spot. The view from here is magnificent and we have several attractions nearby to visit. The Kottathavalam caves carved out of the hills and the figures of Meenakshi, Ayyappan, Kannaki etc sculpted on the walls of the cave depict the ancient Madurai culture, which also supports the belief that the Madurai Royal family rested in the caves on their way to Poonjar. While on our trip to Vagamon we visited the caves too. Nice picnic spot if the climate is good.
