We found Muziris Heritage Tours initially by doing an Internet search. The correspondence from Lijo was first class always prompt and clear. As a party of four we were cruising from Singapore to Abu Dhabi with three stops in India i.e. Cochin, God and an overnight in Mumbai. We had decided to book tours with Muziris Heritage in Cochin and one day in Mumbai thinking that we would do the second day ourselves. The tour we had booked in Cochin was not possible because of our noon arrival however Lijo had anticipated this and arranged another tour which was similar. Our initial thoughts were "this is not good" HOW WRONG WERE WE! the tour was amazing. We did do Goa independently even though Muziris did have a tour. Bad decision on our part Mumbai what can you say - our tour was absolutely fantastic with so many experiences. On our return to port we sought out Lijo and booked another tour for the following day which took us to see and experience the slum area of Mumbai. I cannot praise this company enough and would and have recommended it to others.

Our visit to the area where Slum Dog Millionaire was filmed was an experience which we will not forget. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable, and spoke very good English, therefore, there were not any language issues. Wine also took a tour with the same company when we reached Cochin.

Someone on cruise critic had organized the shore excursions through Lijo Jose / Muziris Tours and I joined in. I had no part in the planning so that could be a contributing factor on why I was disappointed. We had 3 different guides and 2 days in Mumbai, 1 day in Cochin & 1 in Goa. MUMBAI- day 1- we went to Elephanta Island which was worth the visit. The boat ride to and from there was so slow. I would have paid more to take a faster one! The guide was very friendly but didn't seem to know what was planned for the day so he was very disorganized. His English was just o.k. MUMBAI- day 2- we had a different guide (Mala) and the experience was fantastic. Her English was excellent and she knew how to herd cats so to speak. If ever I go back I would be sure to request that she do all my tours in Mumbai. Each day the bus would take us shopping at "official stores" that sold the same things and were expensive for India. COCHIN- Backwater tour. I would not recommend this tour as the boat was very slow & not the cleanest. The views were not that interesting. GOA - I was expecting to see beautiful beaches but I didn’t see any water. Visited some Catholic churches which were not very pretty. If you are not Catholic they may not be worth the visit. We stopped and walked around an area that had Portuguese architecture. Not really worth the effort. Nor was the visit to a plantation. The bus had a broken seat that forced me to sit in a reclined position. The guide kept saying they would fix it but it never was. My son had to use the bathroom and kept getting a soon, soon, soon from the guide.

We booked this tour through Lijo as a shore excursion during our stay in Mumbai. Lijo was very responsive and flexible in responding to our emails. We were met at the pier just outside Imigration and directed to our waiting car. As it turned out, we were given a private tour at the same price to what we expected to pay for a small group tour. The tour itself was well conducted and very informative. Our guide took us on a fun train ride to the massive outside laundry where our car was again waiting. Then followed a visit to a beautiful temple and the Ghana Museum and a few other fascinating sites. . At this and other locations our guide got us in to the buildings and left us to do the tour on our own. This was fine, but just a little more explanation of the important exhibits would have been helpful. Nevertheless, she was always happy to answer our questions. All in all we had a great tour and will definitely be booking our future tours in India through Lijo.
