The Kerala Kaleidoscope gave us the opportunity to discover several Kerala Arts:
- Kathakali: a theatre form using various facial expressions
- Mohiniyattom: classical dance
- Kalaripayattu: martial art
- Theyyam: temple ritual form
The Kathakali is the most famous art form from Kerala, so some spectators had booked only for the first part dedicated to Kathakali and left the theatre after that. I would advise to follow the full program, as discovering the other art forms, and thus the variety which exists, was the most interesting for us.
The theatre is small which gave us the pleasant feeling that the show was kind of private.
On top of the show itself:
- There is a small museum explaining about traditional arts in Kerala, which was interesting for us to see.
- We came a little earlier than the starting time and were able to see the way they apply make-up.
As I wanted to make sure we can see the show on the day we were staying in Fort Kochi, I booked in advance per e-mail which was very convenient.

The show they have includes 5 types of dances and martial art demonstrations. The performers are not highly skilled but it is enough to give basic understanding of the art forms. This is perfect for travellers.

Located in Fort Kochi, Greenix Village houses a small museum, theaters for classical Indian dances, several gift shops and a small book shop. We loved the Kathakali dance performance as it was on a small stage with live music and very intimate and authentic.
We also watched the main dancer paint his face for close to two hours in preparation for the dance.
Greenix alss offers various massages that start from about Rs 600 for a one hour massage. We took the cheapest one and it was a great bargain and very enjoyable. There are also a few stores in the complex selling gifts, spices etc. Their website says they have a restaurant but we did not see any when we were there. I think it never opened or closed if it did.
If you need to wait before a performance, walk about two minutes to Solar Cafe where you can have a fruit shake or a coffee and browse through their collection of many interesting used books. There are beautiful paintings and drawings on the walls - there used to be an art gallery upstairs but I think it is closed.

The Greenix is a nice place to see the Kathakali dance or the exhibitions but NOT for ayurveda massage! The worst massage I had in Kerala and they were very impolite and not professional. Not recommended!

We were introduced to this place by our auto driver. The lady in charge of the receptionist, Ms Veneisha briefed us on the shows. We were told that there are 2 options to choose from. The first have 3 different dances and will cost RP450. The other have only kathakili dance and will cost RP250. To bring one camera will cost RP50. Well, we chose the 2nd option with a camera.
During the show, I realized it is impossible to coordinate two different groups of people to watch two different shows in the same time and there was no other schedule for the day. They have only one studio. Those who paid RP450 or RP250 are all sitting in the same studio, watching the same show, for the same duration!
The show was excellent, as this is the first time for me. I would have given a 5 star rating, but due to the misleading information (cheating) to rip off ignorant tourist, I give a 3.
Please becareful in choosing and dont get overexcited. Maybe it is wortwhile visiting the Kathakili Centre before deciding.

Greenix Village was very impressive if you want to see a traditional Kerala dance performance. The Greenix Village has a good coffee shop, Tourist shop, and two beautiful AC theatres. They have a one hour evening 6:30 pm performance showing traditional Kerala dance that was impressive. 200 rupees per person was affordable and a great cultural eveing. www.greenix.in
We have traveled Indian a lot and this was the first clean and well organized cultural event that we have found.

It was my first visit to Kerala and for the first time I was watching a kathakali show live.
At first I felt the cost of the package is over priced, but after the show I felt it was worth it.
They have one hour session of seeing the make up. U can visit the museum which tells the history of kathakali. Though it's very small and too theoretical.
After the show starts, the performance of the artist is world class. Though it must be piece of cake and a daily routine. But it's worth a watch. You cannot afford to remove your eyes off the stage.
They also have shows of Bharatnatyam, Marshall arts and dance called Thaiyam.
After the performance u can take photos with the artist , which everyone finally wants.
The narration of the show is also quite knowledgeable and keeps you attentive.
Overall an excellent experience!

This was our first experience with the Kathakali art form. I am not that much into art, but this was mezmerizing!
Great artists with awesome costumes gave a general introduction into Kathakali dance. Be sure to be there 15-20 min or so before the show begins and you'll be able to see one of the actors getting ready with some really comprehensive make up.
The ambiance is good with not much light in the room, but enough to see what is happening The show lasted about 45 minutes. A few people used flashes on their cameras, which was disturbing (plus the pictures likely sucked). Hopefully, the managers of the place reads these reviews and start informing people prior to the show.

I can recommend this if you are not familiar with Indian theatre and music. If you like this, you may well be tempted to go to another event elsewhere (as I did)

Liked the Kathakhali mini-performance but the sound system was deafening; audience had hands over ears. Also, they should prohibit photos until the photo-op at the end. Impossible to appreciate anything with all the flashes going off. It's a pity because the performers are talented but we had to leave - worst theatre experience of my life.
