Just a simple dam.
One can take a troll round the dam and click some photos.
Dam can be easily omitted.

We were visiting Munnar and decided to stay at Ragmaya resorts and spa.. at the reception they asked us to go to ponmudi dam and do boating there and we went for it..
when we reached there the view was mind blowing and we were all geared up for the boat ride. As we went to get the tickets they were mildly steep priced and they said it’s Rs 900 (irrespective of the number of people on the boat). As we were two of us, we thought it’s fine may be for the experience.
They justified high price by saying that other places take this much amount for 10 mins and they are giving a 20 mins ride. Turns out that they only say 20 mins and take u for 10 mins. This is fooling the customer and taking more money. They say that for two people the speed is faster!! What fast, it’s a speed boat and should be fast only!!!

Government run and so much FRAUD!!!

During the monsoon the reservoir is full and looks and is inviting. The shores are not deep sores like in the dry season, but as one would expect in a natural lake.

The lake is accessible by road on just a small stretch, otherwise it will mostly be a view from a distance in the hills.

I had a lovely time by the shore where this shot was taken, and only two other people nearby, fishing.

This Dam, a view point , hanging bridge, a waterfall, a natural spice garden and elephent safari (tickets extra everywhere) is a part of Jeep safari to be done in munnar.
This Dam is very famous as a shooting point of movie Chennai express where Shahrukh Khan push the red color jeep into water. Infact it was decorated much for the shooting purpose of the film but naturally also its very beautiful dam ,as you can cross the dam and see the valley on other side of dam wall. You can spend 10-15 mins here to click some pics.If you have leisure time, just lay down there for couple of hours. Note: no shops of anything nearby, so carry with you water ,snacks etc.

The visit was during the peak summertime, so the water was in the dam only with a small flow. In monsoons, it would be different. Many small shops selling overpriced stuff at nearby areas

If you are in Munnar, don't miss out on a visit to this place. When we visited last week, the roads were pretty patchy and took an hour to get to the dam from Munnar. However, the view is worth it. On one side, you see the back water and on the other side you have the let out of the water. There are not a lot of places to eat around and no parking place at all, but who cares. Drive up to the dam, stand on the dam ( bridge ) and get a panaromic view of the place.

Cellphone signals will be patchy, save your GPS route beforehand. Reach when the sun is still around. Stay on till sunset and return. If you are lucky, you will see thousands of bats flying at sunset ( not close to you, but way up in the sky ).

Excellent place overall, off the beaten path. You could visit the Ripple Falls en route to this.

The Ponmudi Dam located in Idukki is constructed over the Periyar river. It is surrounded by hills and greenery all around. It was nice & breezy when we visited this place as part of the jeep safari. Worth a visit to this place.

This dam was one of the stops of our jeep ride. It's a serene, vast area with the usual crowds (though far fewer than the Mattupetty Dam crowds). It was neat and well maintained. We did not stop for long as there were other stops to consider. Overall, it's good for a small visit and if you are passing through the area.

Jeep Safari driver, Junx, stopped at Echo Point located on the beautiful Ponmudi Dam having driven us over the 100 year old suspension bridge and the dam wall. Plenty of water, very few people and lots of echoes resounding around us as we called. Great spot for a picnic!

This dam is built across river Panniar on the way from Adimali to Rajakkad and the water from the reservoir is used for power generation. The view from the dam-the small settlements below and the water in the reservoir on the other side, the huge rock on another side and the reserve forests are really beautiful. Though traffic is allowed through the dam,
