Visited the Tannibhavi beach on a Sunday afternoon, it is one of the most popular beach. It can be reached either by land or by ferry from Sultan Battery. We took the ferry from Sultan Battery and then couple of minutes’ walk to the beach. It is an expansive and clean beach with relatively calm sea, has spotted tourists taking bath. Concrete benches are provided at the beach to sit and enjoy the view. Beach also has tree park which provides comfortable shades in hot summer and a beautiful view. The beach has some basic facilities like lifeguards, washroom, parking lot, a couple of small eateries, souvenir and junk jewelry shops etc. A nice beach to spend some quality family time, especially in the evening to enjoy the sunset.

Neat and clean, pristine beach. Life guard on duty. One should avoid venturing deep in water. Easily accessible from sultan battery ferry point. I recommend this to other beaches like Ullal or Panambur beach.

The beach was long and relatively clean. Excellent place to view the sunset, provided the sky is clear! Wonderful place to relax and soak in nature!!

The beach is nice and clean, and not so crowded. But they don't allow to go to water for long time during high tide.

There are three place in tannirbavi beach

2. Sultan battery , you can travel along with boat and reach sultan battery beautiful spot
3. Tannirbavi tree park , tourist attraction with marine museum .
And still going further we find estuary and beautiful scenery
There are couple of eateries and parking lot too .

Fantastic, public beach. Great for kids to splash about, soft sand, shallow water, gentle waves, attentive life guards, great sunset views. And pretty clean for a city of this size. All in all - my kids and I absolute loved it.
Tip for international (and domestic travelers) - not a place for skimpy beachwear as it's a public beach. No one will bother you ---- it's just that it just didn't seem appropriate for us to wear skimpy beachwear out of consideration for the locals there. More modest beach wear should be perfectly fine.
Definitely a must visit while in Mangalore -- for the sunset and the waves, if nothing else.
Don't think twice - go for it.

A nice beach to visit with family. However when we visited (oct 2020) the beach was closed and people were not allowed to step into the beach.
One can reach the beach by either driving to this spot or take a ferry service.
The lifeguards mentioned this was due to strong currents and the steep drop.
A few stalls around this place; obviously they were closed too.

If you plan to sit on the shore it's good. They won't allow to get into the water. 3 entry spots are there but one has parking facility.

Which beach is best for sunset Surathkal or Tannirbhavi. I plan to visit the lighthouse visit at 4pm followed by this with a small child. So what will be a good place to wtch sunset and allow child to play (safe and scenic)?

Mostly depends on where you plan to stay in the night and the mode of transport you are going to use to commute. If you are around Mangalore and planning to use cab, auto or public transport, Tannirbhavi is
definitely much closer.
How to go from malpe beach to Tannirbavi beach? Is there any private buses?

You have to come to Udupi from Malpe, there are private busses going to Mangalore, taken express bus and get down at Kulur. From here you can go to Tannirbavi beach. You may need transport from Kulur, a rickshaw can be the best choice.

If you're asking specifically about the Tannir Bhavi beach, there are quite a few shacks serving different types of snacks like chats, Chinese etc nearby. But I'd suggest not to rely on these. It's better to carry your own picnic hamper. Please remember to keep the place clean and dispose your junk appropriately
