We went to this temple mainly to worship the goddess inside the temple. We had good darshan indeed. But the pleasant surprise was the waterbody around the temple, which looked beautiful. The flowing water adds to the natural beauty of the temple. We enjoyed immersing our legs in the flowing water.
The free food served at the temple was good. The food items served were good as well. But the constraint is the lack of personal attention. Food is served so mechanically in limited quantity, that one may not derive satisfaction after eating. With due respect to the presiding deity of this temple, the food served looked as though the food was served to slaves.

Ever since my college days in this city, I have always been visiting the temple. This temple provides anna danam all days of the year. Also please do not miss to meet MAHALAKSHMI, the beautiful and elegant majestic elephant of the temple. Whenever feeling low or high, happy or sad, I used to visit the temple to seek Durga Parameshwari amma's blessing.

One of the prominent and well known temples in Karnataka that is located on the bank of river Nandini.
A well managed temple that is clean and offers peace/quiet once inside.
Once can see and hear the river from the main area of the temple.

This temple is considered very holy and is very near to Mangalore at a distance of 26kms only. Many devotees come here to receive blessings of Durga Parameshwari who stayed here after slaying Arunasura. She came as daughter of Nandini River, the divine cow, who was cursed by sage Jabali to be born as a river. Sage Jabali conducted a sacrifice here and worshipped the Goddess along with other gods and requested her to stay here in her benign form. The idol of Durga seems resplendent with ornaments and floral decoration. The temple is located in the middle of the Nandini River on an island and the place is called “Kateel” which in Kannada means “in the middle.” The surroundings of the temple are very clean and the view of lush greenery with flowing river is a beautiful sight to look at. The entrance to the temple and the tower are decorated with sculptures of Durga and other gods and goddesses.
The temple authorities distribute food or Annadanam every day after 12.00. On the side of the temple there is a bathing ghat where one can see the holy serpent stones under the tree. This place is famous for Yakshagana artists. Some devotees arrange Yakshagana as a kind of devotional service to the goddess and get her blessings.

This temple is the Kuldevi temple of the Kateel community. the temple is very beautiful and the water around it gives a completely whole new dimension to purity. Kateel is very famous and you could be stuck in a crowd if visiting on some occassions. the temple is worth a visit surely.

Written 4 October 2015
I din't find any nice family accommodation there. I would suggest, you stay in Mangalore or Udupi and visit the place in a taxi and come back or you can visit some other places on the way too.
