This temple was built by Hoysala dynasty in 12th century. The architecture is similar to belur and halebidu. It is situated in Amruthapura which is about 7km from Tarikere town. Afternoon prasadan also provided here everyday.

Outstanding
Nov 2019 • Couples
Oh, this late 12th century Hoysala temple built by Amruteshwara Dandanayaka is absolutely awesome. It is quite different from the more famous Hoysala temples at Belur & Halebeedu but no less in terms of its grandeur and the intricate stone work. If only Karnataka tourism development authorities did a decent job, this temple would be as famous as the ones at Belur & Halebeedu.

The temple is located at a small village called Amrutapura, near the town of Tarikere. It is a short detour from the Bangalore-Shimoga highway (via Arasikere & Kadur) and is a 75 minute drive from Shimoga.

One can stay at Shimoga and do this as a day trip. We covered this on our drive from Shimoga to Bangalore. There are several fantastic sightseeing gems in this Malnad region. We stayed at a nice homestay called Ajjana mane, near Talaguppa & Sagara. From this place, we could easily access the 16th century Aghoreshvara temple at Ikkeri in 30 minutes; the 16th century Rameshwara temple at Keladi in 30 minutes; the 11th century Kedareshvara temple, Balligavi in 90 minutes; Jog falls in 30 minutes; the 12th century Amrutapura temple would be a 3-hour drive from Ajjana mane (via Shimoga).

A Hoysala Temple near Tarikere
Jul 2019 • Couples
Though not very famous as other Temples like Belur or Halebeedu or Somanathpur, this temple near Tarikere also is a good example of Hoysalan architectute. It is believed to be built under Veer Ballala 2's rule and one of the famous architect Mallitamma is believed to have started his career here. The main deity of the temple is Shiva. Statue of Goddess Sharada is also present. It is believe to be older Hoysalan Architecture and we can also see later additions to the temple.

Magnificent Temple
Apr 2019 • Couples
Feeling of grandour and proud after seeing the temle. Difficult to believe that it was built in 11th 12th centuary. Stones are so nicely and summetrically carved as if it is done with machine. Feeling proud to see our rich cultural ancestory
