We had an interesting experience at this temple. When u look at the temple it has a decorative door made in silver and a lovely Ganapathy perched on top. We initially thought that the door was closed and Lord Ganapathy was inside. After few rounds and observing others that the little Ganapthy on the door is the presiding deity and there is no separate sanctum for the Lord. And that Lord gives darshan always and the door never and possibly cannot be opened. Something not to be missed at Sringeri. I was told that it was earlier in another place and shifted to this location a few years back.

The divine temple of torana ganpati is very beautiful. The place found me staring at itself in awe. The quietness also deafened me. The place is going to be revisited by us.

Thorana Ganapathy is one of the Pancha Maha Ganapathys of Sringeri, the other four being the Rathnagarbha Ganapathy (in the puja of the jagadguru), Sri Vidya Ganapathy (in Vidyashankar temple), Sri Shakthi Ganapathy (in Saradamba temple) and Sri Sthambha Ganapathy (on the base of a stone pillar inside Malahanikeswara temple). This Thorana Ganapathy was the vision of the 32nd Jagadguru. The 34th Jagadguru offered a silver The 35th Jagadguru arranged for Nitya puja to Sri Thorana Ganapathy. The present Jagadguru has got reconstruction of the place done and also offered a golden kavacha to the Lord. This can be seen in a separate shrine beside the Adi Sankara temple.

This is another one of the wonderful temples we visited in Sringeri Mutt. It is located further on the left of Sri Sharadamba temple, and a little inside near the Prasadalaya. We visited this temple after doing darshan of Goddess of Learning, Sri Sharadamba, and paying homage to Sri Shankaracharya, who established the Sringeri Mutt here, and to Sri VidyaShankara, the 10th Jagadguru of the Mutt.
Lord Ganesha, engraved on the Torana, popularly known as Torana Ganapati is considered very powerful and as per tradition the Sringeri Jagadgurus offer worship at this temple before embarking on any tour. The present Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal built a separate shrine for the Torana Ganapati and performed the Kumbhaabhisheka in June 2014.
As luck would have it, we got to meet the two temple elephants of the Mutt as soon as came out of the Ganapati Temple. Then we proceed to the Prasadalaya where we partook in the free lunch, offered as prasad to all the devotees.
It was a very good experience for us.
