One of the shrines which depict history / architecture nad blessings of Sharada Maa , seat of knowledge. Lot of changes seen after 20+ years . The feeding to fishes from near the river has been abondand. One can walk through the bridge after 10:30 am and drop your Moori. Was very rare to visit any pemple in south india twice within a span of 15 min. Thanks to present situation crown was very thin .

Sringeri town visit
Feb 2021 • Solo
I hired an auto driver to visit all the places in Sringeri, the auto driver names was Nagendra and his number is +919481594370. He showed around the entire town and also took me to Agumbe sunset point and back to Sringeri. He patiently waited outside a restaurant for me, while I had food. He politely rejected my offer to have food with me and did not complain once about getting late or having to get back to sringeri. We came to an arrangement before we started the trip I negotiated the price but then gave extra as his driving was smooth and comfortable. I have taken his permission to update his mobile number. I recommend all to visit all the places, four direction four temples, (Jain temple excluded near Agumbe, extra charge just for this.) and enjoy your stay in the Holy place of sringeri.

Convergence of nature, spirituality, and architecture at one place!
Dec 2019
This place tops my list and I have no count of how many times I have visited this amazing place. Sitting in the temple complex and feeling the breeze that has spirituality in it is an unforgettable experience. Feeding the fish in the Thunga river is my favorite part of the visit here.

Anybody looking for solace should come to this place.

Beautiful temple with calm surroundings
Jan 2020
Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri.is the first and foremost of the four Peethams established by the renowned 8th century philosopher saint Sri Adi Shankara, The temple is located amongst the lush green mountain ranges of the Sahyadri.

Sringeri Mutt – Mythology

Sringeri derived its name from the ancient Shringa Giri, the name of a hill here that is believed to have housed the ashram of Sri Vibhandaka Maharishi and his son Sri Rishyashringa. Tradition has it that when Sri Shankaracharya was passing through here, he was captivated by an unusual sight. A cobra had reared up and spread its hood to shelter a spawning frog from the scorching sun. Sri Shankara was enchanted by the divinity of the place which made natural enemies help each other.

Saraswathi Devi, who was accompanying Sri Shankaracharya and his disciples in the form of a young girl called Bharathi, stayed on in the spot as Sharada Devi. Sri Shankaracharya established a matha here and it came to be known as Sri Sharada Peetham, the seat of Sharada Devi.

There is another important place which you should not miss in Shringeri. Do not miss out on visiting the banks of Tunga River. Since, this river basin is considered as sacred, fishing is not allowed in the river at the shrine. Watching the fishes in Tunga River at Sringeri is a enjoyable. Visitors can also feed these fishes and watch them jumping to catch the food.

This is a place everyone must visit for some astounding legacy of our glorious past, well maintained temples and a peaceful ashram. Very well managed and maintained and not typically crowded like a typical pilgrim centre. They provide free lunch and dinner. Beautiful temple with stone carvings but pooja, etc starts late
Dec 2019
The stone carvings are as beautiful as those in Belur and Halebidu. Even the idols inside the Vidyashankara temple are carved out of stone and hence gives a feeling of god's abode as soon as you step in.

Accomodation process, darshan and pooja times is not helpful especially for those with time restraints, and needs a lot of improvement.

For accomodation in the temple guesthouses, you have to go the Temple Admin office located outside the temple entrance ( left of gopuram), opp to Bharthi Tirtha Krupa Guest house (BTKGH). However, there are no signs or information. Type of room will be provided to you based on the number of people and based on the admin's discretion. We specifically requested for room with western toilet as both types exist., and were alloted one at BTKGH for Rs.350. But,the comodes does not have a sprayer. (confirmed that it was not just a one off). Room will be provided only for 24 hrs. Renew after 24hrs if you need 1 more day. There is a paid parking area (30/40rs per day) within a walkable distance from temple. Do not leave your vehicle outside the guesthouses unattended, it may get booted(wheel locks) by the police.

Except for 3 temples that open at or before 7AM for darshan, all others open after 8:30AM. (see temple website) The seva tickets counter opens only after 7:30AM. Pooja/seva is performed only from 8AM, so we had to essentially wait till 8:30 even though we went as early as 6:30AM for darshan. So, read all info on website to plan your visit.
