Must visit experience if at Chikamagalur. Just a caution - carry light jacket and cap as it is very windy with a feel of chill. Raincoat may be another suggestible carry as weather changes in no time. This is the 2nd highest peak of Karnataka plus the Shiva Temple Darshan. Suggested time is morning sunrise or evenings 4-6pm range.

The drive upto the highest point is the best scenic view you can get. Do not doze of during the road trip, every square inch of the drive is mesmerizing.

* Amazing & Mesmerizing place to visit.
* Yellow Taxi Cars are not allowed at the top hence either take Yellow plate Jeep OR Auto OR self driven cars.
* Approx 500 steps of trekking to be done to reach the peak.
* Carry one bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated. Do not carry baggage with you as you will get exhausted climbing stairs.
* If it is cloudy it will reduce the visibility to less than 20 mtrs, if it is sunny it might be hot but you will surely enjoy the view 360 degrees.
* You will get charcoal cooked Corn, sweetcorn, Maggie, Tea and chips to eat at the foot of the hills. Do not expect more than these items to be served at this height.
* You will cross many hair bend pins, small waterfalls, lot of monkeys.
* You can spend upto 2-3 hrs in this place with family.

I visited the mullayyanagiri peak on zq.
May 22.05.22 along with my family. The Mullayyanagiri is very near Chikmagalore city. The nature is very beautiful. it look like real hill station. The cars will reach near to peak. However 500 steps to be claimb. The mist created the entire peak as white peak.

It's one of the best, easiest climb, around 500 steps. The view from top is simply breath taking!! Even kids (ours 5 and 7) could easily climb it. Its a winding drive to the top so best to avoid post sundown. Must visit if you go to chikmagalur as it's nearby.

the view from the top is breathtaking. The last 3-4 kms drive was super scary as the boundary fencing/ walls got displaced due to an avalanche. So, you feel like you are driving into the clouds. If you are scared of heights, would recommend not to head there. As there is no place to take a U-turn (unless you manage to reach the top)

Mullayanagiri peak is a must visit place when staying in Chikmagalur. One can either drive down in own vehicle or take a rented jeep. The roads to the peak are typical ghat roads, some place narrow for cars to stop and proceed carefully. The last 3 kms is the most frightening coz the curves are very sharp and very inclined with the roads broken at some places. Finally when you reach the peak you have to climb 500 steps to reach on the top of peak where there is Shiva's temple. The view from the top is simply enchanting. Going early morning or late evening is good to avoid peak sun.

The roads leading up the hills are well maintained although people tend to drive fast. Some extra attention to cleanliness (platis wastes etc) would be welcome.

I felt this place is more hyped. The view is ok up there. We reached at 7:00 AM there for the sunrise. Was hoping we would see some floating clouds below us, but nothing like that. We climbed around 500 steps holding our 3 yr old child. The road up here was good, not as fearful as what ppl have mentioned in some of the reviews. I felt manikdhara was more thrilling. The jeep operators are goons out there, one of them was arguing with me for parking vehicle there as he wanted to park his jeep there. When we reached back we noticed someone had intentionally put scratches on the car. Looks like they don’t want private vehicles coming there. Very pathetic.

No idea. You can call Java rain resorts or any of resorts there to find out they should know.
Hii,
Do we need to take guide for the trek or not for routes?. And can you describe the full route from chikkmangalur to mallanagiry peak then bababudangiri and return to chikmangalur. Also what kind of public transportation are available for same??
Thanks in advance.

Hi, one usually dont need a guide, however, you need to hire local jeeps for baba budangiri, so hire a mini bus that can take you to both the places and try to wind up before sunsets.

How is the weather now? Is it worth visiting now or it's better to visit just after the rainy season as during that time it's mostly cloudy and windy at the peak of the hill.
