The area
Neighbourhood: Basavangudi
Close to Jayanagar and home to the Bull temple after which it was named, Basavanagudi is one of the oldest localities in the vibrant metropolitan of Bengaluru, with structures replete with character, architecture and rich history. Numerous old and beautiful temples define the true essence of this green locality filled with chirpy markets like the colourful Gandhi Bazaar, many parks with ancient trees, a wide range of unique eateries and dotted with tiny lakes. Taking a stroll here is full of Malgudi Days throwback moments since this pretty lush green neighbourhood has still retained its old-world charm, which might remind you of scenes and stories from the popular collection of short stories by RK Narayan. From a stately old spacious home that once belonged to the Diwan of Mysore, a shop in a heritage family home, a 100-year old home that has turned into a reservoir of modern art, there is a lot of cultural confluence at every step.

On 1st Jan'2023, myself along with my hubby & son got to visit Kote Venkataramana temple.

It was a beautiful temple, built in Vijayanagara style dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. The temple was constructed next to the old fort, which was the home of the Mysuru Wodeyar royal family before it became the palace of Tipu Sultan.

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Venkateshwara, will be in a standing posture with four hands one in varada posture, one placed over thigh and other two holding Shanka and Sudarshana Chakra.

The temple was decorated so beautifully on the day of New Year. We had great blessings & dharshan at the temple.

Blessed start of the year !!

Located opposite BMC (Bangalore Medical College) and next to Makkalakoota, this temple is located at the heart of Bangalore. The temple itself is beautiful and is very well maintained.

Kote means Fort. This temple was housed in the fort of Tippu Sultan known as Tiger of Mysore. Behind this temple you can see the HAVA mahal of Tippu called Tippu Sultan palace. Lord Venkateswara swamy is the main deity. It is very attractive and pleasant to see the idol both during Abhishekam (bathing) and after decoration. The priests like Sri Ranganna sharma and Sri Seshadri Sherma and their jus\niors were/are sincere in performing the pooja by saying the holy hymns in Sanskrit as they are experts and qualified in Agama type of performance of pooja. The devotees are thrilled to hear the musical style in which these Archaks chant the Sanskrit slokas.

Mother Goddess Padmavathy is on the left wing of the main temple. You must see the Mother goddess when fully decorated. It gives a sort of divine satisfaction to the devotees to see these idols particularly on Saturdays. During Shravana (September) month there will be lengthy que to take darshan of the Lord. You can see que running to more than a kilimeter during Vaikunta Ekadashi day, on which date the Northern door of the temple is kept open. It is supposed to be the door of Vaikunta the abode of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that by passing through this door the devotee will go to Vaikunta straight away after death without being troubled by Yama the death god.
Whether one believe these cock and bull stories or not it is an interesting shrine of historic importance in the city of Bangalore.
Thanks to the team of Archaks who are mainly responsible for making the temple more popular than any other similar temples in the city

This beautiful temple, built by King Devaraja Wodeyar in 17th century inside the Bangalore fort is dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara and is just next to summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. This temple consists of garhagraha and is connected to mantapa by a vestibule. The central hall ceiling is supported by pillars that have clusters of colonettes alternating with yalis in all four directions. On Vaikuntha Ekadashi thousands of devotees throng this temple.
There are beautiful sculptures all around in the temple, including on the shikhar. Overall a beautiful temple to visit.

Interesting temple. It is very beautiful from the outside, particularly from Tipu Sultan's summer palace. Make sure to remove your shoes before entering as a sign of respect.
