Top ways to experience Gandhi Bazaar and nearby attractions

The area
Neighbourhood: Basavangudi
Close to Jayanagar and home to the Bull temple after which it was named, Basavanagudi is one of the oldest localities in the vibrant metropolitan of Bengaluru, with structures replete with character, architecture and rich history. Numerous old and beautiful temples define the true essence of this green locality filled with chirpy markets like the colourful Gandhi Bazaar, many parks with ancient trees, a wide range of unique eateries and dotted with tiny lakes. Taking a stroll here is full of Malgudi Days throwback moments since this pretty lush green neighbourhood has still retained its old-world charm, which might remind you of scenes and stories from the popular collection of short stories by RK Narayan. From a stately old spacious home that once belonged to the Diwan of Mysore, a shop in a heritage family home, a 100-year old home that has turned into a reservoir of modern art, there is a lot of cultural confluence at every step.

Starts by morning 6 am. Market has mostly great flowers and fruits. Many famous showrooms for clothes, sweets, utensils and dry fruits can be seen. Has nice traffic management and roads though small are clean and maintained.

Its a very nice market place and a true reflection of Bangalore's heritage and culture. It is famous for street shopping, store shopping, food, flowers and Pooja related stuff.
It has a lot of authentic south Indian restaurants. Evening is a good time to be here.

If one is looking for the authentic Bangalore experience, away from the insufferably noisy roads and high-end malls with westernized stores, this is where the old spirit of Bengaluru lies. Bring giant-sized shopping bags. Some little gems: Subbamma [ for crunchy munchies], Vidyarthi Bhavan [ for authentic south indian food - masala dosa, maddur vada], buy some sandalwood stones and incense sticks anywhere, there is a oil store where they press and extract pure almond / dry coconut oil - most medicinal], coffee shops [ Starbucks got nothing on these].

We can get every thing at one go in Gandhi bazar. One side of the foot path occupied by vegetable vendors, and other side is occupied by florists and fruit merchants.Apart from that we can get all groceries .A place to fill the belly :Vidyarthi Bhavan,Roti ghar,New Krishna Bhavan,Time pass dinner to name a few. Best to mention Subbamma stores which sells all ready made snacks and masala powders which sells like hot cake, you can always see a few rows of customers are standing.
