This is the main theravada buddhist temple in Bangalore. They have sunday dhamma talk and meditation. They run many meditation courses including 3 days, 1 week etc courses. They have a number of young monks and novices who are resident here. Major Buddhist festivals and ceremonies are celebrated here as well such as wesak buddha birthday, kathina robe ceremony etc. They run mainly on donations.

The atmosphere in the main shrine hall is very relaxing and conducive to quiet meditation. They also have a beautiful stupa where one can go around it and experience the peace.

They run a small bookshop of buddhist books and other items like buddha idols at reasonable prices, just next to the temple. It is opposite freedom park.

Maha Bodhi Society is a Buddhist temple which is situated just opposite to Freedom Park. It is a very peaceful and calm place. The place is very well maintained and there is a lot of greenery. One can go there and meditate. One shouldn't miss the Sunday prayers which starts at 9.30 am. It really soothes your mind and take away all your stress. There is also a small shop in the side where you can buy books, Buddha statues and pictures, agarbattis,

Great place to visit and wonderful religious pilgrim site. Becareful about scam arround bodhgaya, if you want to have guide better to find the profesional guide with a fixed price agreement in the begining. There are some young people there (they said they are student and want to practicing their english in explaining about site in bodhgaya), and offering to guide us with no charge-just what ever we want to give. After guiding, they're offering us to go to the poor village and poor school, and made us want to helping them by buying rice or student tools for those people, and then took us to the store that selling it with the high price (seems like they have agreement with the store owner to get some money from the selling).

When I visited Maha Bodhi Society in the morning, it was closed at that time. It opens at 9.00 in the morning. The temple is beautiful. One Buddhist shop is also there where you can buy Buddhist related stuffs.

If you had an idea like be that this is affiliated to Maha Bodhi Society Temple world heritage site in Gaya, look again. This old, quite little place of worship and meditation in Bangalore is on its own. Relaxing, near-yet-far from crowd, worth a shot.

Mahabodhi Society Temple is a serene place, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The main Buddhist temple is huge and one can sit there and meditate for as long as he/she wants. The ambience is perfect to lose oneself and find inner tranquility. Make sure to sit under the Bodhi tree for some time and don't forget to explore the museum. When I went there with a friend, we even spoke to a young monk who was kind enough to answer all our questions. It is undoubtedly a beautiful and peaceful place.
