The area has much to offer tourists: souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants, tour agencies, jewelry shops, pharmacies, a mosque, a Buddhist temple, and convenience stores. It is also right below Leh Palace, so if you can climb several steps, there is no need to hire a taxi to go around the entrance. You can use Google Maps or ask shopkeepers which way to go. It is an excellent place to explore while acclimatizing. There were several activities I had noticed placed in front of some shops. Unfortunately, I only saw them on my last day, so I could not join. I saw posts like jewelry making and painting. There was also a heritage walk in front of a cafe on the way to Leh Palace. It would have been better if these activities were posted in front of the tour agencies so people could see them. They were mainly at the shops in the alleys so only people who explored them could see them. There was also a stargazing event but it depends on how many people can join, so it is not a confirmed activity if you are a solo traveler. On the other hand, it is an excellent activity for groups.

In a two-week tour of northern India, this was the town centre wee enjoyed most. Pedestrianistion makes for a far more enjoyable shopping and cultural experience, with the added bonus of some attractive bars and restaurants, often hidden away on top floors and only spotted by keeping your eyes upwards. By aiming for the smartest looking pashmina and shawl shops we found helpful and friendly English-speaking staff who were delighted to see foreign tourists for the first time in three years, and negotiated for some beautiful and reasonably priced Indian made scarves and Tibetan handicrafts. There are also a couple of larger, smarter, glass-fronted shops on the left as you walk down nearby Fort Road. (We avoided the lesser shops and stalls in the market, the product and service generally looked less good.)

Not a market as such but the main street of the town with shops of all descriptions in a pedestrianised area. Many pashmina stores, Tibetan market, refugee market selling tourist items at decent prices, normal food stores, restaurants, but these are generally on the higher floors above shops. A very pleasant vibrant area, colourful with a great mountain background.

An absolute must to buy local Leh arts, fanatic, winter clothes and food items. Lots of shops and roadside stalls to indulge in. Bargain a little. Could not tell real versus fake pashmina shawls do buy if you like anything. Bought the warmest headband, gloves, socks made from wool. Experienced the sweetest apricots and apples from the market. We stayed at Abduz and was able to walk to the market in less than 10 minutes. Very safe area and has army presence at times.

Leh Market is a must-visit spot, offering a blend of traditional and modern Ladakhi culture. It’s bustling with local shops selling handicrafts, pashmina shawls, Tibetan jewelry, and souvenirs. The market is also a great place to sample local food, from momos to butter tea. The lively atmosphere, friendly locals, and beautiful backdrop of the Himalayas make it a fantastic place to explore and shop. A perfect spot for soaking in the local vibe of Leh!

The market in Leh is strategically positioned on the way to almost all tourist spots, making it a central hub for visitors. With numerous entrances, the market is characterized by two rows of fully wooden structure shops facing each other. The middle open space in the market features sitting areas, providing a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
This vibrant market caters to a diverse range of needs, offering souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants, tour agencies, jewelry shops, pharmacies, a mosque, a Buddhist temple, post office, and convenience stores. Essentially, the market encompasses everything one might expect from a tourist destination, creating a lively and bustling environment.
Taking a leisurely stroll through the market is not only an opportunity for shopping but also a chance to absorb the local atmosphere and culture. Seating areas offer a space to unwind, making it a memorable experience for tourists exploring Leh.

While you acclimitize in Leh on arrival, Leh market is the place to go. Just soak in the hustle of market, watch out for tourists and locals stroll around and negotiate with vendors. It is a good place to shop for souvinirs and warm clothing here. You may also shop for dry fruits like local apricots. Good experience walking around colourful shops and bargaining for deal.

The Leh Market is pretty. I wandered here with my tour organizer as he told me tales of Tibetan settlements in India. You can find almost anything in this market. A lot of Tibetan shops exist selling woolens, junk jewelry etc. The market is a burst of color.
In between, you'll find Ladakhi Muslim bakeries selling the softest of breads. Don't forget to enjoy one! The entire market is quite unlike Indian markets in the sense that it's not noisy.

A must visit place in Leh preferably in the evening when the lights are on. Its a small market with many eateries, ATMs and other shopping options that gives you a wonderful feeling. A wide pedestrian walking space and sitting space as well. Very well managed place-can easily spend 4-5 hours there.

Filthy city with stray dogs roaming everywhere.
Barely able to walk on the pavements.
Can't sleep at night due to poor howling stray dogs..not a great tourist attraction
