Gateway to the Nubra and Shyok Valleys in the Ladakh region. It is the highest motorable pass in the world. Khardung La Pass is positioned on the Ladakh range, which is 40 km from Leh, at an altitude of 18,379 ft (5602 m). A motorable road through the pass was built in 1976, and opened to public motor vehicles in 1988. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.

A quick stopover in this high altitude point, the world's highest motorable road for civilians. There is a mad rush of tourists for clicking pictures with the signboard. Not advised to spend more than a few minutes here due to high altitude & low oxygen.

If you are visiting Ladakh, this is a must visit place; the highest motorable road in the world. When we visited, it was too crowded (probably people started going out again after pandemic)

I acquire a Leh Ladakh Thrillophilia in September 2021. I went Solo on September 07 to Leh-Ladakh.

1. Thank you Thrillophilia for organising and accommodating us in such a magnificent hotel. The hotel provided such a good and delicious food.

2.We visited and explored all the major and iconic attractions in Leh District as per our itinerary, The mighty Khardung La, Chang La, Gorgeous Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley etc.

The tour came to an end on September 12. The trip was super awesome. I had a blast with my four newly made elder friends there.

& Thanks a million Mr. Hardik Prajapati (Thrillophilia). The person with whom I remained in contact for over a months. He assisted me in booking this trip.I got some fabulous recommendations from him.

I was there on 21,st of Aug. Border roads made this pass reachable by vehicle. All motorists adventures ends here there programme by taking photos. Very chilly weather.Oxygen is very less. I booked my tour from Chennai through "TRIVOYA TRAVEL SOLUTIONS" The altitude is around 18000 feet MSL. There is a khardungla cafe which is at 18300 feet. Worlds highest cafe. There is a Buddha temple at Khardungla. Tri colour shines at this Highest motorable peak. All the three sides covered with snow bound mountaibs and valleys. One must go and see. Asthmatic and Heart patients please avoid this place. Most Enjoyable place.

It was raining everywhere in india, except in the mighty Himalayas.
I always wanted to visit the mountain passes, and wanted to get all the experience, from weather conditions which keeps changing every minute or be it a food culture or roads which leads to different passes of Himalayas.

I went on a roadtrip with few friends, and wanted some challenges on ride. So we went with a 125 cc suzuki access with pillion rider. I wanted to experience all the adrenaline and challenges in those 15000ft + height.

Everyone was staying at home while we where measuring the roads from Mumbai to ladakh roads.
With all the restrictions in the country we still managed to travel 3000km on 2 wheeler.

We did all the covid test at borders of Kashmir, ladakh.
We took permits which is required to be at khardung la top. It's checked at south pullu which is at 15000 ft.

Since we had scooty, and yes we we were taking that to khardung la 17900 ft. It was insane and challenging.
At 1st attempt we left our hotel early morning before the sun would kiss us. Since we knew anytime the weather will get bad.

At 10000ft we started getting sprinkle of droplets, and when we started ascending height to 14000ft we started getting heavy snow on our helmets with zero visibility. We still went ahead. At a point we started getting sheet of black ice on roads and it was very challenging to ride on that. At a point when we where 17000ft we where just 1 km away from pass we didn't make it bcoz the tyre was skidding everywhere. So took decision and went back down.

We again did it from the nubra side. And we did went on top. It was heavy snowing on top and temperature was chilled like someone have thrown us into freezer.

We took few pics and left the place.

One of the challenging ride we did in july month where the whole country was soaking in rain we where enjoying snowfall.

It is now second highest motorable pass in India and third in the world, as Umlingla at 19300 ft in Eastern Ladakh is highest now.
We reached there on bikes enjoying all the scenic spots on the way, specially just before the pass are scenic beautiful white clad mountain ranges. After the pass also there were ample photographic places and snow regions to play with. It is not advisable to stay at the pass for more than 15-20 minutes, as it may cause altitude sickness. Kudos to the Border Roads Organisation that they have maintained such a good road on such a high pass. Road is smooth almost at all the places barring few spots.
