Soothing and Peaceful experience
Sep 2021
Hazratbal Shrine is really beautiful, has good architecture and it offers great views overlooking Dal lake and mountains from the back side if you want to take a stroll. I went to this place 2 days in a row; once in the evening and other day in the afternoon. Both times Ajahn started and I found it really serene and splendid. Women are required to cover their head and legs before entering (else you would be denied entry) and there is a separate entrance for women as they are not allowed to enter this shrine. But must visit place if you are in Srinagar.

A Nice Place to Spend Your Afternoon
Mar 2020
The air was really calm, which makes it a great place if you want to pray here. Otherwise, it's a nice place to just sit in the corner and contemplate your surroundings. There were street food vendors in front of the mosque if you fancy a light bite, a flock of pigeons as well if you want to feed them, and the lake is just behind the mosque if you want to take a stroll and watch the sun set.

The place was being repaired when we visited so the entry was restricted to a specific area. However the pious atmosphere was very cool

Scenic Hazratbal Masjid
Jul 2019 • Family
Hazratbal is primarily a masjid and not a dargah, contrary to popular beliefs, since it does not have a grave of any saint. It houses a Moi-e-Muqaddas (a strand of hair from the beard of the Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH). This relic is opened for public viewing on only 10 important Islamic dates in a year. It is kept in a closed hall room above the main prayer hall during the rest of the year.
The name of the shrine comes from the Farsi word Hazrat, meaning "respected", and the Kashmiri word bal, meaning "place".
The place is open to everyone including women. There is a separate entrance on the side for women. Be dressed modestly while visiting. It’s a sight not to be missed in Srinagar.

Visit To Hazratbal
Jun 2019 • Family
Visited this mosque on a Friday and upon arrival we were informed that women are not permitted inside the main chambers and are only allowed to pray from the outside. Accordingly, the ladies in our group stayed outside. When my son and i entered, we were further informed that he too would have to stay outside as he was in his shorts. Not wishing to hurt anyones sentiments, i asked him to leave as well. Upin entering, i found the entire prayer area to be fascinating and was really surprised to see that the original Quran hand written by Alexander the great has also been preserved there. Truly a wonderful experience.
