    A slice of royal history
Focusses on the Gaikwad royal family history and how this palace was built. The armoury section is something interesting to go through. There is a very good audio guide that explains each and every item in the palace tour. Worth a visit.

Awesome Palace and Residence to Maharaja
Good nice palace with equally huge gardens and its own golf course. Though only a very very small part of the entire palace is open for public display. They have good AV and give you the Device with earphones to listen entire history & details about the Palace, its history, Royal Family and many things. It hoes on & on for more than 2 hrs. However you just need 30-40 min to look at the area we are allowed to enter. They have a nice small kiosk cafe inside. Overall good.

A good place to visit while in Vadodara - allow 2 hours.
A good place to visit while at Vadodara. The visitors are allowed in a small part of the Palace. Different rooms have different exhibits, which are well kept and labelled. A complimentary audio guide helps you understand the exhibits. You have to choose the language - English, Hindi or Marathi. Photography is allowed only outside but not inside. You can see the exhibits at your own pace. Please allow about 2 hours. I would certainly recommend a visit to the Palace when in Vadodara.

    A must-visit
It's been months since I've visited this place, but the grandeur of the Darbar hall is something I'm not still over! I had opted for the MP3 audio guide (the earphones need to be improved) so it was quite easy to navigate. The palace is quite beautiful and a lovely place to explore. I was excited to see the vav (the step-well) but they have taken it off the list, and we can't visit those parts of the ground anymore. I had a cup of coffee and spent some time journaling at the tiny cafe inside the palace grounds. I spent 3 hours on the palace grounds before heading to the Fatehsingh museum.

Ravi Verma paintings and Aurangzebs dagger.
If you are in Baroda then this IS the place to visit. The entry fee is peanuts compared to what you get to see. The Durban hall is jaw dropping and you get to see around 7 original Ravi Verma paintings. The armoury has a dagger that belonged to Aurangzeb . They also have a collection of water swords- these were dipped in poison water during the manufacturing process. The place has around 150 rooms but you will get to see a handful. The audio guide has 11 stops but it was made with a lot of care. You will be able to finish it within 2 hours unless you are visiting the nearby step well. I just wish the fountain in the courtyard was working. The audio guide said it’s in working condition. And the entrance needs more upkeep. You don’t want the pigeons to sit on the priceless art objects. Ignore the staff working in the palace. They are borderline rude. If you are into art and want to see more Ravi Verma paintings then visit the Fateh Singh Museum.

The royal family still occupies the upper floors and hence visitors are allowed to see only the first floor of palace. Audio device is provided at entrance to self explain each art and history behind it. Would have been better to provide a guide to give some interesting stories which was lacking.entry fee for only palace is approx 250.

Average. Not V Good as perceived. Historical place. Very costly Rs 250 ticket with audio guide. Not value for money and time spent But Audio Guide is not at all user friendly, not synchronized with individual room being visited. Guide not explained properly. It looks as if being provided free. One can visit once if time permits being historical place. I missed visit last in Feb 2020 due to shortage of time, so planned trip from Gandhinagar to Baroda keeping LMP in view Visited now on 13.2.2021 but felt disappointed. Comparing with other similar places the score is 4 out of 10. Not recommended with hassles. And buying combo ticket of Rs 375 including Fateh Singh Museum is not recommended

The palace is around 3 kms away from the station. The royal family stays in the upper floor of the palace which is restricted for public. The palace houses armoury and a cafe. Audio headphones are included in the ticket price. Takes 45-60 mins to cover the palace.

This palace is of medium size but the pricing is high as compared to other big palaces in India. As the owners live there, most of of the places are not open for public. Staff not very polite and helping. At most of the places you can't click pictures?

Lukshmi Villas Palace is an extravagant building of the Indo-Saracenic style, was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at a cost of GBP180,000. Major Charles Mant was the architect. It is reputed to have been the largest private dwelling built till date and four times the size of Buckingham Palace. At the time of construction it boasted the most modern amenities such as elevators and the interior is reminiscent of a large European country house. It remains the residence of the Royal Family, who continue to be held in high esteem by the residents of Baroda. Belgium stained glass windows and walls with intricate mosaic decorations. Outside of the Darbar Hall is an Italinate courtyard of water fountains. The palace houses a remarkable collection of old armory and sculptures in bronze, marble & terracotta by Fellici. The grounds were landscaped by William Goldring, a specialist from Kew Gardens. The palace is open to the public and an audio tour is available.

You must be thinking everybody has rated high why i am rating it poor , i will come to my reason but before that quick snapshot that may help you

This place is clubbed with Fateh singh Museum and one Ticket can be bought for both the place

1a )Only Palace Ticket 250 ( Indian National )
1b )Palace with Museum 375 ( Indian National )

2).Ample Parking which is free.
3) Clean and hygienic washroom which is inside palace.
4) small cafe is inside for some water and snacks.
5) DSLR/ SLR and Handy cam prohibited for bother exterior and interior.
6) Only mobile pictures are allowed that too of exterior building

Palace is bifurcated in three parts
1. Private Banquet which can be take on on rent.
2. Private Residential.
3. Small part of building is made available for exhibition for an amount mentioned above.

Coming back to reason, one is visting place not for an exterior view but mainly for an interior view what you are seeing is much below a standard when compared to other Royal Properties which is made available for public

Example : Umed Bhawan and Mehrangarh ( Jodhpur)
Udaipur Palace
Versailles ( In France )

When these properties are charging it makes sense as it adds value for the money but this certainly not.
out of 170 rooms in this palace what you see are 7 Rooms which exhibits Swords and some painting for Raja Ravi Verma, a Grand Hall which include Bronze Art

What i mean to say if you are in town and you are seeing this property it makes sense, but you are visting this city to see this property , it certainly does not make sense , as this country offers much better royal properties for exhibition which are much more grand this one.

Thats my view, rest is your call.

Lakshmi Vilas Palace was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at the cost of £180,000.

The entry is from gate # 2 and there is ample parking space for cars and two-wheelers.

Ticket cost is ₹250/- pp and had audio guide included that can be borrowed from visitors area inside the palace from where the tour starts.

The audio guide is Sony MP3 player with 11 tracks for 11 points to be covered. You can pause/resume and choose any track(point) of your choice. The guard at the main entrace explained me the same. I wish those giving the audio guide should have explained that or may be I should have asked them!

A part of palace is still being used as a residence by the royal family and visitors are allowed to visit only the public area.

There is a small cafe and souvenir shop too inside the palace.

Photography is not allowed inside the palace.

The audio guide is little slow. If you follow it, it will take about an hour but without it, the entire palace (public area) can be easily covered in 30 mins.

Went for a office trip in Vadodara. Had a day off and I chose to visit this place which was a great decision. The sheer scale of the palace is enough to baffle one let alone the drawings and the beautifully preserved artifacts.
Also, one very important information there is no need to take a guide for a detailed tour here. The authority will provide you a i-pod and a set of headphones which will describe the place perfectly. just follow it. It is perfectly paused and even gives you the time when you are moving from one room to the other. You can always pause and play, but the narration is just perfect.
Visit the place if you are in Vadodara.
Thanks.

FYI: Photography is strictly prohibited inside the palace.

Unlike any other Palace ..this is Italian grandeur merged with Indian aesthetics and shows kind of wealth Gaekwad rulers commanded .
Everything one is permissible to see and visit leaves one astounded of the fabled wealth that must have been put into the palace and it's royal inhabitants .
Entry ticket at 250/- for Indians ensures mass tourists do not throng the palace and make it dirties .
Well maintained and it's armoury has weapons of both Guru Govind Singh ji and Aurangzeb as also of Shivaji .
Great photo back drops .Spend couple of hours here .

One of the finest museum / residences I have seen. It is easy to reach here by a cab/ taxi or own vehicle. Ample parking space available in going in own vehicle. You need to take an entry ticket which comes with 2 options. One is for entry to Laxmi Vilas Palace and one is combined with Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum. Read my review in Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum and then decide if you want to take a combined ticket or single ticket.
Along with the entry ticket, you will get an audio guide instrument which is available in multiple languages. One needs to confirm his preferred language while collecting the instrument. Instrument once taken cannot be changed. As a suggestion to the Museum authorities, I would suggest if they come with a mobile app, so users can use their own earphones and avoid contact with earphones used by other unknown person. On entering the museum, follow the numbers mentioned and instructions from security persons sitting at various locations. They also help in guiding good locations for photographs from outside as photography is not allowed inside the palace.
The time taken for a detail visit is approx. 2 hours. Washrooms are available. Food stalls are not available.
